Rizzo takes 2 straight pitches he could've mashed for strikes to K, then complains about the correctly called 2nd one. Yeah, we're off to a fine start.

is the cubs not able to hit fastballs a thing or just bad luck?

It's a thing this year, but I don't think its something theyve been bad at in the past, other than difficulty with velocity. They could feast on 91-95 but when we faced pitchers throwing 97+ we struggled.

They can't hit fastballs, curves, changeups, sliders, or beachballs

They’ve been bad at velocity since 2017-2018 when it took off. Especially elevated FBs. Most teams are probably “bad” against velo but the cubs are worse than most.

the stat on the broadcast showed cubs at .191 ba (eyeroll) vs 95+ with league at .242

That was a really interesting note at the start of the broadcast about the futility against pitches 95+. I'm trying to find that data for prior years, because it would explain SO MUCH about what's gone wrong the last few years. If the Cubs are particularly susceptible to velocity, in an era where velocity is spiking, that would explain the downward slide the core has been on every year. It would also explain their problems in the clutch. Further, it'd be a HUGE indictment of the FO. Because while I'm having trouble finding that data publicly, that should be a pretty easy analysis for FOs to do.

60 games though, they probably aren’t “that” bad. They’re still average to below but not .050 points off pace.

Is there any metrics out there that can manage bat speed? I think Javy's bat speed has slowed down enough to make him terrible. He was right on the first 2 strikes in that AB and just swung late. Edited by UMFan83

feels like the cubs' offensive ceiling today is two (2) fly balls to medium deep left field (NOT the warning track) that only make it that far because of sanchez' velocity.

I was at the front of the line saying that 2020 sports should be cancelled, but man I am *not* ready to be done with baseball.

Get this horsefeathers done, Cubs.

he looked like he was swinging a bat made of lead.

He swings it better with fans in the stands.
