You guys apparently need to watch more baseball as every year guys get traded to contenders and see major boots in performances. Its amazing how you idiots are willing to go full [expletive] on other subjects because you got triggered by me saying Russell should be on the team. Additional names from last year are Kevin Gausman 4.43 with the O's heads to Atlanta and has a under 3 ERA in 10 starts. Brach went from a 4.85 to a 1.52. Ryan Pressly went from a 3.40 ERA to 0.77.

The Cubs just last year got

Hamels 2.36 ERA in 12 starts

Chavez 1.15 ERA in 32 games

De La Rosa 1.17 ERA in 17 games

Garcia got bombed in a spot start but they got him for the BP and he posted a 1.23 ERA in his 7 games out of the pen.

Hideo Nomo career ERA: 4.24

Hideo Nomo ERA with the Cubs: 0.00

I guess you have a point.

You didn't specify which Cubs...

Fair point. I guess that since I posted his ML career ERA folks would take for granted I was talking about the Chicago Cubs.

You know, I don't think I'd ever looked at his stats at Iowa before. I vaguely remember him giving them a "call me up or turn me loose" ultimatum, but looking at the numbers and knowing what the pitching staff was like that year it's a bit surprising that they didn't give him a shot.

17 IP, 12 walks, 3 WP really stood out to me as the AAA statline of a guy who would crush at the MLB level.

I didn't say he'd "crush at the MLB level". I suggested that he probably wasn't any worse that the pitchers the Cubs were starting at the MLB level that year.

Edit: it’s been 16 years, we’re allowed to laugh about this now right?

I was at the game and never saw this angle until now. Wtf.

That is the first time I've seen that play since watching it live. I figured it was Brant Brown. UMFan is a dick

Who can forget the great Brian Matusz renaissance of 2016

Just kidding, he was so bad Theo had to personally apologize to the team and then he never pitched in the majors again

So under the new single-trade-deadline rules, Lucroy won’t be able to make the postseason roster, correct? Sorry if I missed this earlier — I just didn’t see were it was explained.

What if, God forbid, Willson can’t go?

you can't make trades post deadline, but lucroy was acquired after DFA. Not a trade. You have to be on the roster by September 1 to be playoff eligible.

Unless I missed something

I also believe you can still put anybody on your roster through waivers and if claimed you can just let the claiming team have the player and the claiming team takes on the entire salary owed. And those players would still be eligible for postseason rosters (if before September 1)

You didn't miss anything, August 31 remains the playoff roster deadline, the only thing that changed is that the August 31 deadline for waiver trades is gone and July 31 is now a hard deadline for major league trades. So assuming Lucroy is on the roster at Midnight on August 31 he's eligible for the playoff roster.

I was at the game he pitched, he gave up like 3 home runs in one inning and if I remember correctly the Cubs actually came back and won that game

I was there too and I can't believe you even have to consider whether you're remembering correctly since it's to this day the most memorable regular-season game of the current era. (Matusz gave up a 2-run homer in each of the first 3 innings.)

Ban this [expletive].

One of the darkest days of my life.

OK sorry guys, I didn't realize that game still resonated so strongly with you. At the time it f'd me up way more than I'd care to admit but 16 years and a World Series have made it so I can jokingly call out a typo from Edith and use the gif. Edited by UMFan83

Once we won in 2016, That game and that series ceased to carry any pain with it/them anymore.

I'm just more embarrassed about my reaction to it.

I threw my remote against the wall and shattered it and kicked a box fan and dented it.

After game 7, I don't think I left my room, apart from bathroom trips, for about 60 hours.
