Once we won in 2016, That game and that series ceased to carry any pain with it/them anymore.

Maybe if my dad would have lived to see 2016 then 2003 wouldn't still hurt. Same for 1984, too. We had WS tickets that we never got to use. And my dad never got over 1969.

I'm just more embarrassed about my reaction to it.

Right? I was in a deep funk all winter, just brutal. The ensuing baseball seasons didn't help matters either. Boston, White Sox, Cardinals? :barf:

But 2016 happened and washed all that pain away. Bryant to Rizzo was the most thrilling moment of my life and I stood there like Andy Dufrense in the rain. I will never get tired of reliving that moment.

I almost wish I could feel that feeling again but I know nothing sports related will compare. Wisco winning a national championship in football/basketball would come close though.

I was upset for a couple of weeks but I was so certain that with our pitching staff and acquiring Lee, Maddux and Hawkins that we were set up for a long run of success so I mostly got over it and turned towards the next season. Still can't believe how 2004 went down...

Bears winning the Super Bowl is my white whale now but I know it won't compare at all to 2016.

I got to witness 10 championships prior to 2016 (Bears, Bulls x 6, Blackhawks x3) and as much as I loved all of those the Cubs WS win in 2016 was better than all of those combined. I looked at my buddy that night as we were still partying at the bar that no sports related event in our lives with ever come close to that.

I think I'm just so fed up with that professional league (the way they've handled CTE/trauma both in terms of acknowledging its existence/covering it up and supporting players once they retire, the way the owners and trash fans have responded to oppressed people silently protesting by taking a knee) that it's soured me in terms of how "into" it I am.

been there done that. Bears didn't provide any drama. I don't think we even watched the second half.

I was there too and I can't believe you even have to consider whether you're remembering correctly since it's to this day the most memorable regular-season game of the current era. (Matusz gave up a 2-run homer in each of the first 3 innings.)

I mean, we won the game, but damn was that a stupid horsefeathering call from Maddon.

What was? The bunt?

Yep

There was 1 out a man on 3rd and Baez on deck who was 0-2 with 2ks.

We were out of relief pitchers and Lester had 2 strikes on him. Yeah, he could’ve fouled out, but if he gets in play it’s game over. It wasn’t even a great bunt and Heyward scored.

A stupid horsefeathering call is a little dramatic.

No, it was stupid. So much more could go wrong, like erasing Heyward, or even a dp, in that situation. Not to mention the foul ball. It was way dumb.

Also, lol at the Javy 2 AB play by play. Is something catching in this place?!

No way they tag Heyward and throw out Lester so no shot at a DP. It was a safety so no pop up DP.

I looked up who was on deck to see if it was someone who would’ve help make it a “stupid horsefeathering call”

Agree to disagree.

I threw my remote against the wall and shattered it and kicked a box fan and dented it.

:dontknow:

I waited until after the single that broke the camel’s back to throw my remote.
