I didn't know this but apparently Holland was DFA'd a few days ago. He sucks and I'm not sure why we did this. But whatever.

Cubs trading cash for Holland and cash.

-0.9 bWAR for the Giants this year, DFA'd recently. Maybe the Cubs think they can fix him

Holland is very solid against lefties, so I could see him being strong in a more traditional short reliever role than he's been used in to this point. Kind of like De La Rosa last year.

As long as this isn't the only pen move I'm cool with it

We feel confident Maddon will use him appropriately?

If Montgomery's usage was any indication, Joe using a lefty as a LOOGY seems like a safe bet. It was the complete wrong way to handle Monty, but clearly the right way to handle this dude.

I feel like if anything, he would use a non-LOOGY as a LOOGY, rather than use a LOOGY in a role that LOOGY can't handle. He settles into the obvious, this lefty should be able to get out a lefty because he's a lefty mindset, and in this case, it could work.

Completely agree.

Hasn't Maddon even done the cutesy "have the lefty go play a position for a hitter in between lefties" thing the Rays did the other day?

I'm thinking Travis Wood?

yes Travis Wood played the outfield between batters and made a catch at the wall

i always forget about the crazy horsefeathers that happened in this game because i was in vegas and i started watching it while getting ready to go out. stopped paying attention when it got out of hand and then was shocked when i came back to the room at 4 am and turned on sportscenter.

Apparently Spencer Patton played left field also, so 3 pitchers played left field in that game

If getting a quality loogy like Holland allows them to keep player assets that can then be used on a bat or set up man then I'm quite happy with this deal. Honestly even if they don't do that I'm pretty ok with this.

The Wood catch is definitely a different game then the 3 relievers in left field game, so Wood did it at least twice.

That game is still top to bottom my favorite Cubs game I've ever been to, even after also seeing the Bote slam last year (I've been wildly lucky in recent years). Just complete lunacy for, really, almost a half-day straight counting when I found out early in the afternoon that we were shelving Hendricks for Brian horsefeathering Matusz.

Yes, the 3 pitchers in left game was in Cincinnati.

Brach should be DFA in favor of Wick. See if Wick can seize the spot. If he falters they can pull back the designation but I dont think my eyes can handle watching Brach's ugly ass delivery anymore and Wick offers more promise IMO.

It's just for money, and he's dominant against lefties, so I'm fine with this so long as they use him appropriately.
