We feel confident Maddon will use him appropriately?

I feel like if anything, he would use a non-LOOGY as a LOOGY, rather than use a LOOGY in a role that LOOGY can't handle. He settles into the obvious, this lefty should be able to get out a lefty because he's a lefty mindset, and in this case, it could work.

Completely agree.

Hasn't Maddon even done the cutesy "have the lefty go play a position for a hitter in between lefties" thing the Rays did the other day?

I'm thinking Travis Wood?

This is something that was pretty iconic to the “Maddon is crazy/eccentric” mythos. Something that should have been recalled without question marks.

This what Solid state drive degradation looks like. Time for a backup, buddy.

meh.

to me that whole thing is more about wacky costume trips and animals in the clubhouse and crap like that. he rarely does anything all that eccentric in terms of managing games. he also did that 867-5309 lineup thing, i guess.

Bellenger, Muncy, Joc, Yelich, Freeman, Bryce, etc. All guys I would expect the Cubs to face in the playoffs.

Seems like an ok move to me.

He also hits the pitcher in the 8 hole more often than most managers (and shifts less than most). Hasn't done it as much recently but I think in 2015 he did it almost all year. That's not as crazy as it was when LaRussa did it in the late 90s but still against the grain.

Wow, just saw his splits..I didn't realize they were that extreme. Righties hit like Anthony Rendon against him and lefties hit like Daniel Descalso.

If this were next year with the batter minimum thing he might be out of a job entirely.

Holland seems like a Montgomery that fits the roster better than the original. To get Maldonado for Montgomery and Holland for nothing seems like a fair amount of improvement where the only cost is losing Montgomery's 2020-21 team control(trivial at this point).

I’ll listen to this buster’s Harry Caray impersonation for the next 30 years if he helps bring another championship trophy to Chicago.

Man, my respect for Descalso has gone way up. Kid has been fighting an ankle injury for months now, but tried to tough it out until it got to be too much.

Glad he finally said something.

Imagine how good he’ll be when he comes back after getting over this ankle injury that’s been bothering him for 4 months!

Descalso goes to the IL with an ankle injury he got back in April.

Second straight year that our biggest FA signing of the winter gets hurt the next season. Such bad luck

In all seriousness, how many injuries do they need to see before the FO realizes that it's a very poor proposition to let these guys play through them? I wonder if some of it is Joe not wanting to dig into the milb depth.

It definitely seems to be a problem that they are so unwilling to IL guys. Who knows what it is, maybe the medical staff sucks and just thinks things can be played through, maybe the players aren’t being honest, whatever it is it’s ridiculous they are so against using the IL (especially now that it’s 10 days and for guys like Descalso).

Doesn't bode well for Sergio Romo's 2020 season.
