The cool thing about Dietrich is that he's a double threat: the Cubs' FO whiffed both in terms of yet another Marlin kicking ass in the NL Central, AND they decided to sign Descalso instead of him.

Excuse my ignorance, buy why can't someone who is way smarter than me just look at / maybe cut open one of the old balls and one of the new balls and tell us if there's juice in the new ones?

but then the juice will spill out and make a mess

Dietrich himself is likely juicing. He already has more HR this year than he had in 4 times as many AB’s last year.

well probably just insane FB/HR luck. He has more HRs than singles, doubles and triples combined

The fact that he's playing in a much more homerun-friendly ballpark doesn't hurt either.

Spin the ball on a countertop. A juiced ball will have a much lower spin rate.

i mean, Sealboy had 10 HR in almost 1000 career PA coming into the year and now he's already reached a dozen for the season, we're not even to June yet

Have you looked at Willson's stats?

Someone not on the list but should be worth mentioning:

Jorge Soler hit his 17th home run today. Entering the game he still had a sub .800 OPS, a 104 OPS+ and an OBP below .300. So he's not exactly a wizard at the plate.

But he's crushing dongs like we always thought he would.

I think he's going to have a breakout season one of these years where he posts a good OBP along with a good SLG% and lots of HRs (40+). Problem is he'll always suck on defense and he looks brutal in the OF at times bringing his value down.

I wish we had sold on him sooner (like right after the 2015 season maybe?) and I bet Dodgers' fans feel the same way about Puig.

Dodgers are the biggest beneficiaries of this too.. That park at night especially is so difficult to homer in and look at their inflated numbers

THE THOUSAND HOME RUN PYRAMID – So if you made it through the previous paragraph, you won’t be surprised to learn that at this clip, we’d see 6,591 home runs hit this year, which would be … the most in history! And about 1,000 more than last year (5,585)! And nearly 2,400 more than were hit a mere five years ago (4.186)! Even at the height of the PED era, the most bombs launched in any season was “only” 5,695 (in 2000). We could see that total eclipsed by 900 homers this year.
