when we were good, i did not like jason heyward much. now that we're bad and he's still cashing ricketts checks, i love him. plus he seems like about as good a guy as a millionaire athlete can be. keep cashing those checks.

Proud card-carrying member of the Always Liked Jason Heyward club. It was depressing when he was sucking and I thoroughly enjoy not dreading his at-bats.

Heyward going public about being unvaccinated too

Rizzo makes sense but I would never have expected Heyward to deny science

Heyward always seemed like a good dude and has done a ton of good for the community since coming to Chicago (and I assume before). Usually with athletes I let my enjoyment of their skills be the focus rather than their likely terrible character, Heyward has been the opposite since coming here. So this is disappointing. Definitely think some of his overall frustration (.565 OPS, suddenly very mediocre defensively, etc) came out in those quotes.

all of Heyward's quotes are horsefeathering awful

"I got a flu shot a couple of years ago and was knocked out for 3 days"

YOU WERE JUST ON THE IL

High school education combined with lots of money and an adoring public is a toxic brew of Dunning-Kruger for a lot of these guys. Layer in the prosperity gospel and history and it's a tough sell. It doesn't make Rizzo or Heyward bad people, merely willfully ignorant.

a good way to get fans vaccinated, Jason, would be to take what you're doing/saying and do/say the exact opposite

You’re hurting like .172 dude. What could the shot even do that would hurt your stock right now. Maybe the Bill Gates microchips it inserts into your bloodstream will help.

Between Heyward's vax stance and the Cubs being good now, this post did not age well... :P

Contreras is one of the few Cubs known publicly to be vaccinated, along with Adbert Alzolay, Javy Báez, Kris Bryant, manager David Ross and team president Jed Hoyer.

BRB, adjusting "favorite Cubs players" list from Javy, Contreras and Bryant to...Javy, Contreras and Bryant.

Honestly this stupidity from Heyward doesn't surprise me. For some reason I wasn't expecting Rizzo to be so dense. And Javy surprised me as being the voice of reason.

and here i didn't think anyone could sound dumber than rizzo.

All these assholes sound the same to me; same as every other anti-vaxxer out there.

I would love to be so secure in a lucrative job that I could do something as dumb as not get vaccinated while really sucking at said job and not worry about losing said job.

I gotta ensure Tommy Nance is vaccinated so I can continue loving him.

especially considering his dad has ALS

This team's going to get knocked out of contention come July when they have a delta variant outbreak that puts half the team on the shelf for two weeks, isn't it?

I don't know, forcing Ross to not play Sogard/Heyward/Jake for a couple weeks would probably cancel out losing Rizzo for that amount of time.

I thought the story about Heyward not being vaccinated was that he had been on the antibody treatment when he had a fairly severe case of covid. Was that made up, not relevant now, or still the case?

I know I posted about it on here but everything I search isn't bringing it up, it was when players were starting to get vaccinated and the way I remember it reading is that it was something that was preventative for covid not a therapy for having had it
