The real weak point was Chase Daniel, if they had a competent backup QB they beat the Giants easily and have a bye in round 1.

What’s this talk of Burton’s psychology now? The groin injury could have been a cover for a panic attack or something?

If he has anxiety that kept him out of the game, that’s fine. But I’m interested to know if he actually had a groin injury.

Chase Daniel is one of the better backups in the league. They put up 27 points which should be enough to beat the Giants.

But in a less nerve-racking game, he decided against doing that play again

I don't believe he's covering up panic attacks, he had a groin injury.

It's ridiculous that this is being discussed. Guy admits he has had anxiety attacks and all the sudden he has an injury and some people are saying the guy who threw a trick pass touchdown on 4th down in the Super Bowl last year is having a panic attack. I realize that a) the injury was rather mysterious and b) panic attack occurrences aren't always related to the magnitude of a given situation but still, there is no reason to believe that Burton and the Bears are lying about this.

Bears have these fart-knockers next year at Philadelphia, just like 1985-86 with the Niners, they're going to Philadelphia and kick the Eagles' asses. Parkey for fun, will hit a upright or two, won't matter as the Bears win by double digits.

Never mind what happened happened Sunday, they can't bring Parkey back. It's not like he was great all year or even good and they don't want to make him a scapegoat, he was pretty consistently bad when it mattered most. As for Sunday, the defense shouldn't let the game come down to a field goal but an NFL kicker has to make that.

"only my teams" thought of the day: Have the Bears ever won a game where the opposing kicker missed a field goal that should have been made? It probably has but it sure doesn't feel like it.

I only recall one miss against the Bears all season and that seemed like a miracle, it's as if opposing kickers haven't missed in the last 5 years.

Bears opponents were 22-22 on XP and 25/26 on FG, with the lone miss in the 40-49 category. Opponents were 5-5 in 50+.

Only Atlanta's opponents had a better FG percentage 22-22, although on XP their opponents were 41-44.

Bears opponents were 5th last year and 1st last year (29-32) and 1st in 2016 (33-35).

06 against Arizona, they missed a ~35ish yard FG with under a minute left that would have given the Cardinals the lead. Of course that's 12 years ago but that just popped in my head when I read your question.

The one miss was against the Rams and it was a fairly big miss because it would have brought it back to a 1 possession game with like 10 mins left.

But yeah in general kickers seem to be really lights out against us, even the 50+ yard kicks always seem to find their way through

It can both be true that Nagy was conservative in playcaling in the first half and that Trubisky was pretty mediocre in the first half. In fact, that’s what I think occurred.

I guess the thing is with a game this close you can point to any one lackluster factor in the game as responsible, because if any of those factors (late defense, short punt, more points earlier on, THE KICKER) they win. Such is life.

The theory is that his anxiety is related to not wanting to be known for the Philly Special. Didn't want to do a version of it against the Giants. Couldn't bring himself to play in a game where it obviously would have been mentioned ad nauseum.

Not saying I buy it, but that's the theory.
