Mitch really needs to get better and put a high floor under this team

We got real fortunate with injuries this year and Vic might be gone

I mean, they were missing an All Pro safety today and starting TE and nickel. Robinson missed 3 games, Mack the first 2 of his career, Trubisky missed a pair. Long, Shaheen, etc. They were healthier than recent years and probably a little fortunate, but they were also abnormally injured in the past and got a well regarded strength coach upgrade this past off-season.

Is it just me or did the tip really not seem to affect the outcome of the kick or if anything help keep it from going even farther wide left?

It's not just you. I was thinking the same thing but I can't say for sure.

Was at the game - a real gut punch. I was honestly disappointed in the defense. They allowed so many crushing third down conversions. It really deflated the crowd. They couldn’t get off the field. Not that they played bad, but I expected more. They got very little pressure - especially in key situations.

In the end, playoff games are likely to be close and they were in position to win and blew it.

It’s such a bummer because you just can’t expect to be in the same position next year. So many things have to go right for you to win in the NFL. They had a chance here.

I also thought the first half play calling was questionable. So many long throws to the sideline for zero to few yards. The one time they threw it down the field it was a near completion to Robinson. It was just too conservative.

Wasn't that Parkey's 6th goal post clank this season or am I confusing someone else doing it between the 4 clank game and last night?

My biggest frustration from that game was the first half play calling. Nagy was sending in plays like they were going up against the best defense in the league. I love that you can almost always count on the defense to come through, but don't leave it entirely up to them. Make something happen. Spread the field. Move the ball. If they played the first half like they did in the second half when they pretty much HAD to move the ball, the Bears win easily and it isn't left up to Cody horsefeathering Parkey.

That's what i seemed to recall, but after reading this game thread, there was not one mention of the "5th" one and the one last night was being referenced as the 5th one.

Is that a record? I mean, 4 in one horsefeathering game has to be.

The other thing thats maybe mire significant with regards to Parkey is that he was 76% accurate, which put him at the bottom of the league. Yes, clanking the uprights is annoying, but in general he sucks.

It's not just you. I was thinking the same thing but I can't say for sure.

I feel the same way. No one noticed any chance in the spin or trajectory of the ball so I don't think the slight tip had anything to do with the miss.

And the first half play calling was terrible. I get trying to be somewhat conservative with a young QB in his first playoff game but it's not like Kyle Orton was under center.

Yeah. Let's watch and see how conservative the play calls will be for Pat Mahomes this coming weekend. You're supposed to bring what brung you.

Edit: I'm sure its a perfectly reasonable way for a kicker to practice accuracy but still

Too bad there weren't any high school or college or pro football goal posts anywhere to be found to get some real practice in.

You're supposed to be the best defense in the league and you let the Eagles march down the field to score the game winning TD with less than a minute left on the clock. Let them get 46 yards on the first 5 plays of that drive.

10 men on the field for the TD to Goedert too.

Just a disappointing performance really on all phases of the game. A true team loss: defense, special teams, offense, and coaching.

They gave up 16 horsefeathering points in a playoff game. I refuse to blame the D for this loss.

I'm not blaming them entirely for the loss, but they had more than a FG lead with less than 5 minutes in the game and let the Eagles dunk it in their faces. It happened. On another crucial play where they gave up a TD, they only had 10 men on the field. Those were critical situations in the game and they came up short.

I understand most of the criticisms being shared here. The play calling in the first half. The defense not shutting down Philly on that last drive. Mitch being Mitch (average QB, which I always expected but still...).

I just can't shake Parkey. He did that to us all year and I wanted to give him credit for the FGs he made yesterday. If it was anyone else I'd probably say the other 2 phases of the game have to pick it up too. I just can't give him that benefit of the doubt. The game is on him, and I'm sticking to it.

Certainly he pretty much missed a layup of a FG.
