Weather channel now has the center of the storm not hitting N.Carolina until Friday AM. So, it's looking likelier (not definite) that they'll play this game in DC on Thursday afternoon. Do we know if it will definitely be against Scherzer?

They’ve announced Ross is starting

Ok, good. Skipping Ross to pitch Scherzer in a meaningless game for the Nats would be a dick move

It makes sense. All Scherzer has to play for is the Cy Young, so it wouldnt make a ton of sense to waste a start by having him pitch in a game that could possibly have a long delay and/or postponement halfway through the start

I'm reading-comprehension challenged: So that means MLB is expected to deny change-of-venue request to Wrigley and to deny request to move to Oct. 1? or to deny move to Wrigley, but to agree to move to Oct. 1?

Take it for what it's worth...

this would be better. If we have won the division we can just send a B league roster to DC to play the game (or forfeit) and if we are out of it, we can make these chumps play the Nats out of spite.

also, has any professional team actually forfeited a game? Can it happen?

He's saying this Thursday's game is still on in DC.

There have been a handful of forfeits due to fan behavior over the years (like Disco Demolition Night) but only 1 game since 1914 has been deliberately forfeited and it was due to some issue Earl Weaver had with a tarp being left on the field.

During the September 15, 1977, game between the Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays at Exhibition Stadium, a light rain had been falling, and the grounds crew placed a tarpaulin over the two mounds in the Blue Jays' bullpen, which was in foul territory, outside the left field foul line. Before the start of the bottom of the fifth inning (with the Blue Jays leading 4–0), Orioles manager Earl Weaver came out of the dugout and claimed to umpire Marty Springstead that the tarp endangered his players by exposing them to the risk that they could slip or trip on it when entering the bullpen to catch a fly ball. Weaver removed his team from the field and said that they would not return until the tarp was removed. Springstead ordered the tarp removed from the mound that was closest to fair territory, but refused to order the removal of the tarp from the other mound and told Weaver that he could play the game under protest. After arguing with Springstead for nearly twenty minutes, Weaver returned to the dugout. Springstead then waited five minutes (the period of time specified by the rule book) for the Orioles to retake the field. When they did not do so, he ordered the game forfeited to the Blue Jays.[6] This is the only time since 1914 that a major-league baseball team has deliberately forfeited a game.[citation needed]

It'd be nice if we could see some semblance of a hot streak from Quintana or Lester, so we aren't relying on maybe-for-real 2018 Cole Hamels as one of our top two starters.

Look, I know Bote sucks, but he's at least more enjoyably sucky than Seal Boy.

FJM

Yeah I was about to make that same point and then I looked at the numbers and it's depressingly the right move, at least based on the second half.

Lefties are at a near .800 OPS vs Chacin and Righties are in the mid .500s so the lineup options make some sense tonight. Sucks Heyward and Schwarber are hurt but whatever, figure it out and win.
