Does bad Strop ever go good Strop in the same outing or is bad Strop all bad until he's taken out?

Not totally on him here. . Seeing eye single, getting really squeezed, and then a ball that should be caught. Obviously not a 'good' outing, but could definitely see him getting out of this.

Yeah but he didnt start out the inning attacking hitters with a 3 run lead, lots of nibbling which put him at the mercy of the ump.

Lead off single was an on 0-1 count. Next Ab went like this:

Right that doesn't really change my point. He threw a bunch of borderline pitches even after falling well behind. The ump was stupid but they were all close enough to call balls

So much for the building an invincible bullpen thing. If you cant even hold 3 run leads in the 8th and 9th innings against the weak hitting Padres...

Time to put Anthony behind Javy and move Bote up the order and move Heyward down.

The last turn through the rotation

28.1 IP, 25 H, 9 R, 7 ER, 6 BB, 28 K, 3 HR, 2.23 ERA

Sight for sore eyes. And 3 of those 5 pitched more than 5 IP!

Man, I'm glad I got stuck in traffic without my phone and couldn't hear the end of this. Joe's horsefeathering bullpen management is going to put me in the horsefeathering grave come playoff time.

This game couldn't have been more tailor-made to just do the easy thing and go Carl-Sea Shanty-Strop for a nice, painless win. No need to get cute; the bullpen wasn't taxed or short. You get a good inning out of Carl? Great; kiss him on the forehead, say thank you, and then send him on his way. I don't care if he gets 3 outs on 3 pitches; just let him pitch that inning and then move on to the next guy.
