The Cubs have this really bad habit of running through 1B and staying inside the base path. Some ump is going to call an out at some point if another team catches on.

Maybe that's why they're starting to slide head first all the time

On a throw from the left side of the infield?

A-Rod knows the rule is that you have to make a genuine attempt towards second right, and that turning left to go back to the base doesn’t count?

I don’t have audio on (thankfully) but he might have a point. I’ve seen a guy called out on that play. It is close enough that Hyde has told runners to get back.

In the last month we have 9 losses. 7 of them are 1 or 0 run games by our offense. 3 of the losses could’ve been won by scoring 3 runs. The rest were out of reach.

Those 2 other losses were 4-5 losses at cincy, walk off, and vs sf. Not arguing anything was just curious and looked it up and figured I’d share.

That seems irrelevant. If he is inside the baseline he is in fair territory

Pretty sure Rizzo did make an attempt, didn't matter because he was safe at 1st though

If I had to guess most teams probably are similar??

Give me a few random teams and I’ll check it out. Like I said not arguing anything was just curious.

The threshold for an attempt is a lot higher than what Rizzo did. Under no interpretation was he trying to go to 2nd base, runners have a lot of leeway on this.

Yeah it’s interesting, I guess. Not try to argue or anything either. I don’t overly care, just saying I’d guess most teams are somewhat similar. Especially if you pick a team with a similar record over a period. Since 2015 teams are averaging 2.6 runs a game in losses, us not scoring in losses really isn’t a thing.

I’m sorry, I misread your first post.

Matt Kemp had a play earlier this year where he made a slight movement to 2nd and got tagged out to end the game.

If Bass was the choice that inning if Q got in trouble just let Bass start the inning then. At least give the horsefeathers ass pitcher some margin for error. Don’t make him pitch out of horsefeathers.

Agree

The fact that Bass was in the game in that situation in the first place should signify that the bullpen isn't as rested and available for tonight as we all thought. Taking Quintana out after 78 shutout pitches before the 6th inning would not have made sense.

We've seen Joe use Cishek 20 times this season in that exact spot successfully. If he doesn't have a tired arm he probably got the shits from Bryant or something and was unavailable.

I’ll take a series win, don’t get me wrong, but it would have been nice to sweep them. Also the last few weeks they seem to have too many games where they have zilch, absolutely nothing on offense. Not struggling offense, just not even a chance offense

Kemp looks, sees the ball got by, and lurches towards second. Rizzo’s continued route through the base, while clever, does not have near that level of commitment, even if Kemp’s is only momentary.

Most teams don't lose 9 games in a month.

I'm still amazed Schwarber rates as a plus defender

I generally think it's small sample size. He obviously has a good arm which helps but I'm not sure he's had many tough plays out there. Also probably good positioning helps.

I checked the Brewers. 11 losses. 6 with 1 or 0, 2 each with 2 or 3, and 1 loss with 9 runs. They couldn’t have won any with just 3 runs.

So our pitching being great seems like it amplifies the offense not scoring because a lot the games are in reach. So that’s a great positive for us that our pitching puts us in spots to steal games.

18 LOB is plenty of chances.

Yeah I hear ya. Offense didn’t show but doesn’t help that we only used Bass, Duensing and Farrell in the pen and all 4 runs came with them in the game

Quintana let 2 baserunners on to start the inning and has to go longer than 5 innings.
