This is unfair but still notable to me

Cubs fans: wtf joe you’re gonna burn out the pen

Also cubs fans: Where is Cishek in the 6th I don’t care if he pitched last night

Literally anyone but Anthony horsefeathering Bass is defensible.

Yes im sure Farrell(the other RH outside the late inning circle of trust) would’ve been greeted with cheers.

The leverage at that point dictated one of the circle of trust.

We don’t have an off day until, like, August. It’s not that big of a deal.

Then just start horsefeathering Bass and Farrell in a piggy back start and punt the whole [expletive] game if nobody is available

Someone from the “late inning circle of trust” should have been used with two on, no out in the 6th inning if 0-0 game. That’s the problem.

They need to get at least 3 more innings from the pen tonight and they play 14 consecutive days afterwards. If there’s a time to use someone like Farrell/Bass it’s in a situation against a slew of non-elite RH bats like that. Bass gave up 2 routine ground balls, a line drive, and a K, would you really expect Cishek to do that much better than that?

They have one guy in the lineup that can beat you and that's Ozuna. Bass could have pitched this upcoming inning while not facing the only good hitters in their lineup.

Edit: Contact beats you in that situation and Anthony Bass gives up lots of contact because he's shitty. He was the wrong choice no matter what.

Ozuna hit a 40 mph ground ball that the defense botched.

That’s likely the highest leverage spot we’d face this game. Use the best available option there (Cishek or Strop). Give Bass the 7/8 if options are limited later when their best hitters aren’t up.

Process over results. That was the absolute wrong process all the way around and the results were predictable.

We've completely outplayed them this year and are going to be 3-5 against them because we somehow always find a way to have Anthony Bass or Luke Farrell pitching against them in the biggest spot of any close game.

A dumb decision getting a decent result doesn’t make the decision any less dumb

Lol people complain about the pen usage b/c joe uses high-leverage guys in too many low leverage spots, not because of general “overuse.” Using one of the good relievers in a high-leverage spot against your rivals is not “joe using cishek AGAIN???!?!?”

Joe's dumbness notwithstanding, I was expecting to catch up on this thread to see lots of complaining about how piss horsefeathering lucky St. Louis got in that inning. They hit one ball decently.

In the end, at this point, the Cubs have allowed two runs no matter who they used to get there. It's not their fault every run is magnified because the offense sucks again.

Yeah stupid inconsistent offense an issue again. I’m not even sure how you “fix” that

If I had to guess averaging 2 runs a game in losses measures up pretty well vs the rest of the league. I don’t get what Espn was getting at there.

I guess we were due to give up something to that little horsefeathers but it still pisses me off
