LOL, I just remembered the time that fan ran on the field to the mound to presumably fight Howry, when Howry was pitching like Howry and then when he got there he realized he made a terrible mistake

I forgot about this, but 10 years ago Aramis Ramirez hit a grand slam against the Phillies to turn a 2 run deficit into a 2 run victory. The only difference is that his grand slam was in the bottom of the 8th instead of a walk off. Still some similarities.

Sorry for the crappy fan video I couldnt find an MLB.com highlight for it.

They also had the walk off wild pitch in August 2007 against the Phillies that got them to first place for the first time all season.

Maybe I'm imagining it, but I remember cracking up at a photo that seemed to be of that exact moment: the fan has his arms out, like, "why did you give up that HR?!?!" like he went from "I'm gonna tackle this guy" to "uhhhhh, maybe this was a bad idea and I need to play it off." Damned if I can find the photo now, though.

That ball flew directly over my head in the bleachers. One of the most fun games I've ever attended.

I could never forget about that game. That was the day the 08 team reached Final Boss level for me because I just knew Aramis was gonna come through and he did.

BTW, the day the 16 team reached Final Boss level was a little earlier - Javy's walk-off on Mother's Day, when I was just waiting for us to win; never for a second thought we were losing that day.

Last Cubs walkoff slam:

Ahh yes, I was at that game. I think the win briefly pulled us into 1st place with the Astros.

I still remember Len's call of that one.

it's funny how being in first place felt like such a big deal back then rather than an inevitability as it has felt for the past few years

I was there too. IIRC we needed to win to maintain a first-place tie. Great night and the best game I'd ever seen until the Brian Matusz game in 16.

Bobby Howry got the win

watch your mouth this is a family message board

Bob Howry was sorta great his first two seasons as a Cub. He averaged 1.6 fWAR as a reliever those two years. But then he started giving up dingers...
