Gotta hand it to the Brewers. Season on the line and they go 6-0 to even up the division. Sure Cubs could have played better but if they weren’t literally unbeatable this week the division is over

I’ll never forgive the Cards for not winning one game in that series.

I'll never forgive the Cubs for losing both of their last two series against the Brewers.

right. i'm sick of this forming narrative that this blown division is just because the brewers got hot and the poor cubs didn't have enough off days.

Since August 22nd, the Cubs have played at a 98 win pace (23-14) with just 1 off day.

The problem is the sham overrated vaunted Brewers have played at a 113 win pace over the same time frame (23-10)

The Cubs are good and have played good, the Brewers have just played considerably better with more rest

Edit: lol just read 17 seconds post right before mine

Lmao lmao really the Tigers are gonna lose consecutive games where they have a 3 run lead by 1?

The fact that the end of this season has gotten so stupid and silly leads me to believe the Cubs will win and the Brewers will lose because it’s so dumb

FUN WITH ARBITRARY ENDPOINTS!

Yeah, that 7-game win streak sure helps a lot when looking at it that way. Here are some more endpoints! Between August 1st and August 21st they went 10-8. And then, obviously, only 16-14 from August 29th until today.

I mean, a big chunk of it is the Brewers getting hot. How much the no off days think hurt the Cubs? Who knows. But I think we can agree it was advantageous for the Brewers to have off days in September and not have to take random, one day trips to Atlanta (I know that was late August) and D.C.

The Cubs are 15-12 in September which is a 90 win pace. That’s fine. It’s not great, but that’s not what I would call blowing it. The Brewers have played great down the stretch. Hat tip to them.

Yeah, if they win 95 games and it just so happens that the only other team in the NL to win 95 is also in their division, there's not much you can do...

... except those two horsefeathering series. Just win one more of those games and this thing is already over. That's going to stick with me.

So earlier in the week the Nats said they’d start Scherzer on Sunday if the game mattered. Apparently that only means if it determines if the Rockies are in the playoffs or not. Since they and the Dodgers are both in, he won’t pitch tomorrow.

they have no obligation to do anything, but that's a pretty weak excuse

In other last day fun...

Khris Davis is hitting .247 this year. In 2017, he hit .247. In 2016 he also hit .247. In 2015? Yep, you guessed it. Also .247. The last year he didn't hit .247 was 2014 when he hit .244.

He needs to go 0-1, 0-2, 1-4 or 1-5 tomorrow (or not play) to remain at .247 for the year.

It’s arbitrary but add a day onto it and it’s the exact length of the death march which I think there is some value to look at as a whole. Especially because the Brewers have had like 17 off days in that stretch

And the Vaunted Brewers who I was told repeatedly would fade this year, have played even with the Cubs through 161 games

To be fair, no one who said that envisioned Christian Yelich turning into horsefeathering steroid era Barry Bonds for an entire month.

Because I was curious:

Yelich in September: .361/.500/.826

Yelich since Aug 28: .391/.508/.886 (this includes a 2 HR game on Aug 28 and his 6-6 game)

Bonds average 2001-04: .349/.559/.809

Yelich's September (1.326 OPS) would be Bonds's 4th best season and his September plus a couple days (1.394 OPS) would be just behind Bonds's 2004 (1.422 OPS) when he walked 232 times and had a .609 OBP.

Related note, there have been 14 seasons since then. Bonds's 120 IBB's that year would have led the league in BB's in 6 of those 14 seasons.

Labor Day is the one that really got away

They kept pace with our injured, tired team because one player played out of their mind. Good for them. With some baseball randomness they still may come up short ultimately. I’m not conceding a thing until it’s over

Is it really a bad thing if Schurzer isnt pitching? Increasing the odds LA and Colorado end up tied? Potentially if Cubs have to play the loser in the WC
Posted
Yeah Scherzer not pitching is fine by me. Go Rockies cant stand LA and I live out here. If we have to play Monday I want those teams playing Monday too
