Justin Wilson threw a 1-2-3 inning.

Without throwing a ball.

Not gonna lie, wasn't sure I could trust Gameday that he had a 5-pitch inning with no balls thrown.

you guys aren't going to trick me into checking to see how awful he actually was. nope, not going to work

I haven't been following along, but doesn't ST Gameday only show decisive pitches in pitch counts since there isn't reliable pitch count/location data?

Either way, love to see Wilson and Edwards set down the side without walks even at the start of spring.

Yeah, that's the case. I was wrong. He probably ran every count to 3-2 and got bailed out each time.

Anybody able to watch the game or see any clips online of Wilson throwing? I wonder if the changes they say he's made/working on are noticeable.

Honestly, I feel like his issues were all mental but i could be wrong.

They said they identified something(s) and were working on it. One of them was he was pulling the ball out of his glove earlier with us last year in his windup/stretch than he was with Detroit and they think that caused some wildness.

Grimm seems to of picked up right where he left off, 1IP 1H 1SO 1HR

To be fair to Grimm...this IS Spring training. I prefer HRs allowed to walks at this point, no matter last year's HR/9 rate.

Very true. He's not wrong. But I'm not sure the best thing for a guy fighting for a roster spot is to give up bombs, like he did non-stop last year.

(obligatory yearly) I really hope we're not giving our roster spots based on spring training performance.

Sounds like A-ball Gameday data. Between my recollection of that and my recollection of 2017 Cubs Justin Wilson, I didn't trust the 5 total strikes outing.

Happ DONG, right handed this time. He also hit the ball really hard his first time up but it was an out. Edited by Cubswin11

Gameday says freeman is at 2B and Chesny is a SS. Isn't this backwards? Does Young play SS? Does it matter? Is there anything really to talk about with this team during spring training this year? While I'm glad the team is so solid that there are no real position battles (Happ/Almora/Baez?Zobrist/Schwarber is the closest we have, but all will get time) it is kind of boring.

Young played 30 games at SS in AAA last year. Freeman is organizational fodder so who gives a horsefeathers about him or if he’s being forced to a different spot. Young has a slight future as a utility player so getting him some reps at non-2B positions (especially SS) is huge for his future. He also has played some OF in the minors, fwiw.

Grimm used to follow me on Twitter because I said something nice about him in 2015 or 16 when everyone was [expletive] on him and he was legitimately good at the time. So, in conclusion, he must search his own name on Twitter.

Bryant back in the lineup today, it was noted that Bryce had surgery the other day to remove an ingrown toenail so maybe Kris just took time off to be with his friend during a trying time.
