Isn’t most of their success this year based on timely hitting, production from players well over their careeer numbers, solid starting pitching, a really good bullpen, and a bunch of 1-run victories?

The defense has played a large role in the latter 3 things.

Also that Brewer message board is saying two of their pitching prospects (Woodruff and Brown) had starts skipped between the weekend and today. Might be something, might not be anything. Saw Brown already has around as many innings this year as all of last year so could just be some maintenance/inning limits.

Like Cubswin said the defense is the through line here. Their starting pitching in particular sucks and is being propped up by the defense. The offense has not been particularly clutch by FGs measures, so the 1 run victories are coming from the run prevention side as well.

i would not mind at all if the brewers paid a high price for a rental. my only fear would be that the orioles screw it up.

Kinda agree. If it costs some real prospect capital, we are still better and he’s not re-signing there. That being said I hope he goes to the Indians or Yankees.

It seems like whatever dude the Brewers grab off the street to play middle infield for them on a given week ends up with a 1.500 OPS and multiple game-winning HRs, so sure, let them give up their best prospects for Machado. I don’t see how it could make them better.

F the Yankees!!!

yeah Im not sure I will be able to handle it if the Yankees get Machado for a package of players similar to what they gave up for Stanton, which is about what I would expect.

They're probably gonna end up with him anyway, so might as well have them giving up money and players to do it, even if the latter isn't very impressive.

Nah I dont want to see the Yankees trade for him giving up their 8th and 11th best prospects. Are the Dodgers not interested in him anymore? Could the Angels jump in at some point? If he got traded to a southern California team, sure, I could see him falling in love with it there and signing with them over New York. I never rule out LA when it comes to free agency.

But long story short I'd be ok with the Brewers trading for him, as long as they give up a lot, of course. Cause we would still beat them. Plus it might be fun to see what Theo does in response, if anything.

Supposedly, if Justus Sheffield is included, the Yankees could get him, which would be a surprise to all.

That said, Yankees would be foolish to deal Justus Sheffield.

Very curious what the package the Yankees offered was. I'm still betting on the D-backs here - their core is built for now, they have two top level starting pitching prospects that they could possibly offer one up in a package.

man fucked up. the yankees getting machado would be gross, as would giving an actual alive pitching prospect to the orioles who would swiftly destroy him

I'm rooting for Machado to go to the Indians. Ramirez-Lindor-Machado would be entertaining.

go to hell

I'm gonna assume that Clint Frazier and possibly Billy McKinney are in any deal. Maybe Chance Adams.

And would the Yankees then demote Andujar or is he included in a deal too? They have the prospects necessary to make it happen......

Fear not for Theo will counter with Shane Greene and either Adam Jones or Cameron Maybin

Surely this guy I've never heard of has similar trade value to Russell + Happ + + ?

We should make sure we don’t want to trade Russell and Happ +++ for this Phillies pitcher if he’s that good.

Sounds like he's heading to the Dodgers if you believe Nightengale (and you have every reason not to)

Honestly....meh. Doesn't really worry me for some reason.

If we do our job we won't have to worry about the Dodgers until the NLCS, and I'll take my chances at that point. And they'd still have to win a crapshoot best of 5 against the NL East champ under that scenario.

Even though it makes October a little tougher the Dodgers getting Manny right before facing the Brewers 7 times in two weeks is awesome.
