I keep trying to find a gif of Kramer going "you STINK," but no dice. PetermanRealityTour would have nailed it...did this dying offense start when he got the boot? BRING HIM BACK.

How the horsefeathers do we get swept by the horsefeathering brewers?!?!

One team played like it was a do or die situation for them, which it was. The other team played like it was September 30th and the magic number had hit 0 weeks ago, which it hadn't.

And speaking of late September, 9/21-9/28 will likely be a very, very interesting week of baseball.

If they manage to choke this away and miss the playoffs, then they just don't deserve it. But what's so maddening is that if they manage to get in, I think they could be dangerous and possibly win it.

So I'm torn between "screw them, they suck and don't deserve it." and "come on, just squeak in somehow"

There is absolutely 0% of me that sides with "screw them, they suck and don't deserve it."

Yeah, that's an absolutely terrible position to take. There's nothing anyone on this team has done (besides Russell probably) to make me even remotely feel any animosity toward them. They're a good bunch of guys that are just not playing very good baseball right now.

Oh please. I'm a Cub fan since 1984. I will root for this team forever, and root for them to win every game from here on out.

But there's no part of you that will say "horsefeathers you guys" if they blow this? You will just be "disappointed" and not the slightest bit angry?

screw them, they suck and don't deserve it seems quite a few notches above (below?) the slightest bit angry. I will definitely be the slightest bit angry if they don't make the playoffs this year. But I can't imagine saying or thinking something along the lines of they don't deserve it, when speaking about this group of players that actually just won the world series 11 months ago.

You're a better man than me because I'll be pissed off.

This seems like quibbling over technicalities. We'll all be angry if they don't pull through. One person will flip out a little more than the next. Such is life.

i won't be angry with how well or poorly they play because i have jack horsefeathers to do with it.

i hope they win. always. when they don't it sucks, but it takes little time to get over it. especially because i can go to youtube and watch 2016 playoff highlights and i'm sure i'll tear up if not full-grown-man-cry when i watch it. yes, it would be disappointing but there can only be one team to win the WS every year.

and the cubs could obviously still be that team this year

This...all day. A lot of it has to do with age, but I don't get as fired up about it as I used to. Plus, last year was beyond amazing and because of it I can never truly be mad or sad about the Cubs again. Sure, I want them to win every day and I was pissed about the Brewers series, but not for long. It was more like "sh*t...that sucked. I'll go toss with my son."

'84? Pshah. Fair weather fan. Come back when you've been a fan since '69.

Remember how we won the World Series last year?

that memory fades a little more every day

I have found that watching the entire 10th inning on youtube every night before I go to bed has warded off any and all memory attrition.

(But I hope we get at least one more before Theo moves on to a new challenge)

I rooted for them for at least a few years before that. But I must admit, I remember rooting for the White Sox in '83 so I felt that disqualified me from calling myself a true fan until '84. I was young and stupid.

Don't feel bad, I was always a Cubs fan but I had a slight lean towards the White Sox in the early 90's. I worshiped Frank Thomas. By 98, I was a clear Cubs fan but still rooted for the Sox to do well until about 2003. Like you said young and stupid, just a different era

Contributing to this conversation feels like a thread derail, but discussing the White Sox in a thread called The Cubs Stink is actually remarkably on topic...

I remember one day in 7th grade, after hearing Fred use the phrase "a good White Sox is a dead White Sox," I went around asking my friends if they were White Sox fans or Cubs fans, just to make sure I was surrounding myself with the right kind of people. Being young and dumb never affected my moral compass when it came to Chicago baseball.

I was joking before; I wasn't even born yet in '69. But now...I just...I don't even...I can't...no.
