I definitely think Maples gets called up.

Tseng should be added to the 40-man but they could shut him down due to innings limit.

Part of my wants Taylor Davis and Andreoli to get called up for depth/make their MLB debuts but that isn't likely without injuries.

Don't want to make a new thread but any guesses on September call ups?

I'd think Caritini, Zas and Grimm are locks. Obviously Willy, Lester and Russell whenever they are healthy.

But anyone else? Maples should be up, IMO. Maybe Tseng or PJ just to have some bullpen depth in the event of a blowout game? Then maybe Hannemann or Zagunis? That's getting to kind of a lot of guys.

Do you think they will add anyone not on the 40 man currently? I guess they could just drop the Leatherman (or put Grimm on 60 day DL) if they wanted to call up someone like Tseng.

Your list looks good...possibly add Eddie Butler to the mix although I'm not really sure what role he could play...dude that can't throw strikes is not a great fit in the pen.

Iowa's season ends 9/4, after that there's no reason not to see Butler, Frankoff, Leathersich, Grimm, and Zastryzny on the pitching side, and Caratini, Zagunis, and Hanneman on the hitting side. I imagine Grimm, Caratini, and maybe one/both of Butler/Zastryzny will be up right on 9/1.

Grimm is technically on the DL right? And its probably not a fake injury because he has options and has already gone down to Iowa a couple of times. Just pointing that out because we don't know for sure (unless I missed some news because who pays attention to news about Justin Grimm) if he's healthy to come up on 9/1.

i think they mentioned during the broadcast either yesterday or the day before that he is preparing to go on a rehab assignment.

I'd also like to see Carasiti and Hancock maybe. Koji and Rondon have been total horsefeathers lately and we might as well give Joe options aplenty.

I expect Hannemann to be the late-inning PR or CF for sure.

Carasiti and Hancock would require 40 man spots. Technically you could find room for them by DFA'ing a Rosario or a Frankoff, but it's an extra barrier to getting called up for what amounts to the 11th spot in the pen.

He started his rehab assignment last night. And, this is going to shock you, he already gave up a homer.

Len and JD mentioned Carasiti last night like he was a lock to be called up. I assumed he was on the 40-man.

Good call on Maples. He needs to be added to the 40-man, my guess is Frankoff is designated. Freeman would have to be added, too- I don't know what move would be made there.

Total call-ups, including players coming off the DL:

Lester

Grimm

Zastrysny

Caratini

Zagunis

Maples

Then, when ready, Contreras and Russell... If Butler is close to ready, he could be added, too.

Rosario would be the most likely to come off the 40-man, imo.

So I read Maples has been in the system for 5 years. How many more years of control do the Cubs have of Maples?

Three option years - 2018, 2019, 2020. At least six calendar years of control before he becomes a free agent.
