I have never felt more confident about something in my life: Tim Tebow will get a cup of coffee in the majors, suck, but will definitely steal a game from the Cubs.

It’s preordained. It’s written in the stars.

I think his Adidas endorsement deal expires in August. When that money dries up, he'll go back to studio work and disappear from baseball

For a second I was like "I mean, it's slightly humorous but not that great"

Then I realized I was in the Tebow thread and I cackled like a buffoon.

Saw something that made me think of Tebow this morning, so I took a second to look up how he's doing in AAA so fr this year:

77 PA .143/.211/.186 35.1% strikeout rate

So...not very good.

I thought this got bumped because of his horrific take on amateurism in college sports, but a drug issue works too!

Shocked that kid who grew up rich would have such a crap take.

What's the countdown for this pud to claim he was "misinformed" after giving a motivational speech to a bunch of Proud Boys?

I mean, ultimately I think the kids should get paid, but SOME of what he's saying makes sense. Its easier to romantisize college sports without money, and that counts for something. But there is still going to be enough romance to go around. Much of that cheesy stuff Tim listed off will still exist even if you pay student athletes well past living wages.

The romance is found in the traditions such as the uniforms and the mascots and the songs.

Romanticizing the sport because it is played by “student-athletes” was gone by the wayside long ago because everyone knows that the best players already get paid.

Well, if you are only considering Div. 1 football and basketball, that's partly true, because some of those best players still play by the rules.

The romance is not gone because kids get paid/cars, it's because the NCAA and individual schools make an insane amount of money off the kids' brands and they are pathetically compensated for it

Yeah, the question of under the table money should be largely irrelevant; college basketball and football are basically raking in pro league money, and the people who are the reason for it aren't even allowed to get a sponsorship deal with the local pizza chain. It's absurd.
