Edit: The fact that they seemingly made it a point to break with the traditional timing of the visit (the Nationals trip next year) in order to avoid Trump and/or see Obama makes me even happier.

You also see how much influence Theo has in the organization too seeing as a majority of the owners are well known GOP backers and one of them is in Trump's administration.

Realistically, this was probably due mostly to the fact that Obama was from Chicago and they wanted that connection, to the extent that it wouldn't totally surprise me if they made another trip when they visited the Nationals this year. I like your version better though.

I saw this last night and I have to admit It made my night after listening to Obama's farewell address. I'm going to miss Obama and I think we all are (liberal or conservative) after having to witness these next 4 years of hell. Trump is a monster, and anyone who compares any other politician, like Hillary, to him is a fool. The level of corruption and conflicts-of-interest will be unprecedented for a US president...

This isn't the place to rant about politics -- I know that. I'm just ecstatic that the Cubs will get to go to the White House and chill with President Obama before he leaves office. I'm sure he'll make some good jokes and talk up how good this championship was for the city of Chicago, and maybe the nation (excluding St. Louis and Cleveland lol). A lot of people were moved by the raw emotion of Cubs fans crying and celebrating and writing the names of loved ones with chalk on the walls of Wrigley. It was a special event for many, many people beyond just Cubs fans and it was one of the few good things in an awful year.

I don't care where you stand on the political spectrum (unless you're a fascist or neonazi or alt-right member -- then you can go horsefeathers yourself) because we should all be able to enjoy the Cubs visit to the White House before Obama leaves. If they went when Trump was in office, I'm sure some players would be conflicted or decide not to go. It would taint and mar the celebration of finally winning a World Series.

It always amuses me when a non-liberal comes in here and talk politics to a demographic (Illinois/Chicago) that is massively liberal, but then wonders why everyone disagrees with them. And I mean everyone.

Frankly, I'm surprised by the default unwilllingness to discuss seriously any POV coming from a conservative, but that's probably because I'm a foreigner.

I'm so horsefeathering tired of reading broad characterizations about the entire horsefeathering board like there's some groupthink going on just bc 99% of the board falls into the group of 280,000,000 americans that think trump is a piece of horsefeathers.

and oh btw, we all thought trump was a piece of horsefeathers 10 years ago when he was a democrat. so this has nothing to do with being liberal. but the notion that chicago is massively liberal is horsefeathering hilarious.

Am I the only one that remembers that Trump hates the Ricketts? And I'm sure the feeling is mutual?

Political donations during the general election and Todd Ricketts being appointed to a cabinet position aside - they don't like each other.

Side question: will this allow players like Dexter Fowler to be involved, or since he's already part of another organization will that not be allowed?

There's no

More evidence that they hate each other than there is with every other cowardly republican that criticized him then kissed the ring.

The Cubs just won the World Series are visiting the White House with a standing president from Chicago. This is such a a great and rare moment to cherish... And you [expletive] literally take a golden shower on the thread and turn it into something political. For horsefeathers's sake, there's a Politics thread for a reason.

Anti-politics shield - lets focus on the moment at hand below this line

I am genuinely excited for this event.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this will be make it so every one of the 5 Chicago teams visited the White House during the Obama presidency except his beloved White Sox. Obviously the Blackhawks after winning their Cups, the 85 Bears visited this year, the Bulls visited I think twice during trips to play the Wizards over the last 8 years.

5 Chicago teams? I think you're forgetting the Fire, Sky, Wolves, Red Stars and Lions RFC.

Also, nobody cares about the White Sox.

That's pretty arbitrary. I'd imagine at least one player who has been on the White Sox at some point has visited the White House in the past 8 years.

From articles I've seen he plans to be there
