This got me wondering if there is anyone around from the '45 team that they could wheel out. The answer, sadly, is no:

The Tigers' Ed Mierkowicz is the only one left. :(

Happier angle: We've got a World Series game at Wrigley tonight! Woo hoo! :yahoo:

Yeah the last living Cubs player died last year I believe.

The good news is that there are now 25 living people to have played for the Cubs in the World Series, and they are all young enough to stick around for quite awhile.

all it does is remind me that sammy isn't there

seriously. Fly his ass back in from Paris if they win the next two games and have him throw out the first pitch, sing the stretch, retire his number, and win the WS.

We need to sweep these 3 games. I can't continue to be this unproductive into next week.

Yes, plus it would be glorious to win it all at Wrigley.

For those interested in the effects of the wind tonight....this is what it looked like last year in the NLDS when the wind was blowing out 20 MPH:

Of the 8 HRs hit that game, only 2 would have been gone with no wind at all. The wind is expected to be blowing harder than it was for the above game tonight.

How do Yankee fans live like this? Damn degenerates.

Also, I no issue with becoming a degenerate every October.

The first is always the most disruptive. I will still be a nervous wreck in future Octobers, but if we win this year I think I will at least be able to get some work done on week days. I think.

More importantly: This is proof that even Jason Heyward can dong in this wind.

Posted this in the Schwarber thread but figured I'd put it here too...

Tomlin actually has reverse splits, this year and for his career. So if they are iffy on Schwarber to begin with in the OF I could see that playing a factor in at least sitting him for the game tomorrow. .276/.310/.487 vs RHB and .246/.277/.450 vs LHB for his career and .295/.323/.522 vs RHB and .227/.247/.438 vs LHB this year.

And it's not even close: 3.40 ERA, 0.97 WHiP vs. RHB /5.18 ERA, 1.37 WHiP vs. LHB

I say go

Dex CF

Javy 2B

KB 3B

Rizz 1B

Zo RF

Contreras C

Addi SS

Almora LF (better chance of a good defensive game vs. Soler's for offense.)

This was before he forgot how to hit.

Interesting thing about Tomlin. He had a terrible August and temporarily got booted from the rotation until the Salazar injury put him back in. During that brief time in the pen, he worked with the Indians coaches on a couple of specific adjustments to his pitching. Since he was put back into the rotation, he's had 6 starts, pitching 36.1 innings and allowing just 8 ER (1.98 ERA). He attributes his success to the adjustments made.

But I don't think a lot of that will matter with the donging conditions in the air tonight.

Hoping for another Soler start. I liked his atbats on Wednesday night. Plus the wind howling out. Edited by bjam12

guys, IM GONNA HAVE NACHOS FOR DINNER

Will you be drinking Old Style with it?

On a whim, I called Fred Meyer - one of the local (Seattle area) grocery stores. The guy had no idea what I was talking about. Explained - they didn't carry it, of course. I guess there's PBR in a pinch, but not the same thing; plus, the hipsters kinda glommed on to that one.

Had to come post in the game 3 thread. I was hoping to get to Chicago but it looks like today and tomorrow are out. Still holding out hope for a clinching game on Sunday. Can not wait until 7. Go Cubs!

Actually a cool article by Joe Buck about how calling a WS game at Wrigley is going to be the highlight of his career:

Never been a fan of Mr. Buck and I'm not gonna start liking him now, but that is definitely a pretty cool article. Its good to know that the importance of the moment is not lost on those calling the game.

I wouldn't, but I'm not as knowledgeable as many of the folks around here. I would think that Heyward should be in the lineup because his glove and speed might be needed with the wind blowing out to right. And the first thing I thought when I saw the lineup with Javy in 2nd was, "I wonder how many ground balls bad hitting Javy hits?" I also like the idea of Miggy catching tonight. And he's perfectly capable of grabbing hold of a pitch and sending it out, so who knows.
