  1. This is spot on. I'm surprised that many on this board are recalcitrant to agree that this team should have/will have significant turnover this offseason.
  2. I don’t believe that Epstein will do it in his last year here. With that said, why wouldn’t we try to trade across the board for young assets? This group isn’t winning the WS. (Kimbrel, Schwarber, Baez, Bryant, Rizzo, etc)
  3. That's a clown offer, bro. Offer Jason Heyward (WAR 1.5) for Harper; Puig only has a 0.9 WAR this year. JHey still has a no trade clause through this year though ...
  4. That sucked too ...
  5. Clickbait? This sucks OP. NSBB is better than this ...
  6. Curtis House - in Skokie, is that correct? Small world ... I went to Devonshire/Old Orchard Junior High. Same. When did you go there? I was born in 1974 and attended Devonshire and OOJHS in the 80's - moved in '89 after one year at Niles North. I remember playing in Skokie Indians for Little League Baseball and am sure that do did too. Curtis House was great, and I doubt that he had a racist bone in his body ... albeit, that's my vision of him are admittedly through the eyes of a child. I remember the Indian-themed songs, as well. These memories were better those I had of Steve Garvey in '84 ...
  7. Was it Curtis House? That's exactly who it was. Curtis House - in Skokie, is that correct? Small world ... I went to Devonshire/Old Orchard Junior High.
  8. Thank you, Cubs! I could not resist: I'm posting in the 2016 Chicago Cubs World Series Game 7 Win thread.
  9. I've been following the Cubs since Kingman and Buckner in the early '80s, and I understand that there are many that have passed away and missed it or have been waiting much longer than myself. It's irrational, but the Cubs winning has filled that primordial desire that I have had since early childhood ... I'm just grateful to be posting in a "Cubs World Champions" thread!
  10. I like the cut of your jib The Indians taught us something - elite relief pitching can (almost) make all the difference in the playoffs. For the same money/length on the market, why wouldn't both Chapman and Jansen (Melancon/Cashner in relief?) want to sign here? With both of them, you can somewhat rest them to be ready for when it matters at the end of the season. Quite frankly, I'm sure that Jed and Theo may move in this direction ... might as well go all out signing free agents now, stay clear of trading away more of our farm, and pay our young stars in a few years after the Cubs network skyrockets into existence. I can see our front office going in for the kill at this point. At Trans Tiger: great points. Maybe I'm just getting greedy, but - hey - stranger things have happened this year already (i.e. Schwarber in the WS). I'm looking forward to seeing what Theo and Jed do this offseason. What an awesome year!
  11. Why are we trying to 'save' at this point? Resign Dexter, resign Chapman, and sign Jansen. Could you imagine Jansen and Chapman both there to close games in the 2017 playoffs? Why can't we have both?
  12. Does anyone have a stat as to how the Cubs hit in warm vs colder weather? It seems to me that the Cubs bats picked up once the weather improved ... or am I wrong? It's in the 70's tonight again in Cleveland! Need to jump on Kluber early tonight.
  13. The forecast is in the 70's all night in Cleveland today. I really think that the Cubs do better in warmer weather, than cold. As Joe said - "the hitters can feel the bat better" when it's not in the 40's. Hopefully, this plays out to be true.
  14. And it's not even close: 3.40 ERA, 0.97 WHiP vs. RHB /5.18 ERA, 1.37 WHiP vs. LHB I say go Dex CF Javy 2B KB 3B Rizz 1B Zo RF Contreras C Addi SS Almora LF (better chance of a good defensive game vs. Soler's for offense.) Kyle Would you be surprised if Joe went with the following? Fowler CF KB 3B Rizzo 1B Zobrist 2B (Baez is swinging at everything again) Coghlan LF Montero C Russell SS Heyward RF Kyle P
  15. Theo knows that bringing Schwarber into the clubhouse discussion is a positive distraction to loosen the Cubs up (even more) before game 6. Smart move.
  16. http://www.forbes.com/mlb-valuations/list/ http://www.forbes.com/sites/mikeozanian/2013/03/27/baseball-team-valuations-2013-yankees-on-top-at-2-3-billion/ Based on the television deal, I believe that we'll have to wait 2-3 more years for a competitive team. I believe that Theo knows this full well, and a lot of the moves seem to be loading for that time frame such they 'peak' from 2016+. If it's been mentioned already, my apologies - but I found this interesting (albeit sobering for the next few years). Cheers.
  17. I can understand the motivation to build from the farm system, but - as a fan - I find displeasure in the fact that funds are not being used to more aggressively obtain free agents. It's not our money, but the following figures make me scratch my head (especially as a Cub fan who has NEVER seen them in the World Series): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Major_League_Baseball_teams_by_payroll Cubs are #15 in 2012 payroll http://www.forbes.com/mlb-valuations/list/ Yet, they remain #4 in revenue. I'm looking for entertainment. While we rebuild the farm system, I still do believe that they could've spent a bit more (even for 2-3 year contracts, going harder after Ryu/Cespedes). There needs to be more urgency to do well now, in addition to building for the future.
  18. Thanks, Ricketts. You're a dream come true for us, Cub fans.
  19. We've got Dick Harden ... yeah - the joke is as old and enjoyable as getting beat over the head w/a wet noodle. http://asthruz.mlblogs.com/_W4Z5790_A-thumb-600x399.jpg
  20. I would've preferred to have Pie over Ward.
  21. It doesn't matter whether we win or lose, but - honestly - I always enjoy seeing the Cubs win (whether it be w/the A-team or B/C-team). Therefore, to help muster some good karma, here's some pics (pardon the fact that they are not necessarily Cubs-related): http://www.stupidcollege.com/Images/Sexy_Ass_Part_3.jpg http://slog.thestranger.com/files/2006/10/wizardwanda.jpg
  22. Wrong. Lou's daughter is dating Corey Patterson, while Howry is cheating on his wife with Natosha Baker.
  23. A few Brewers fans are whining, but - for the most part - they seem reasonable: http://community.sportsbubbler.com/forums/t/59693.aspx
  24. PST: Marquis is the secret bullpen weapon.
  25. Seeing that play at the plate about 7 times in the last minute on NY feed, I can only say that Koyie sucks ... not a big deal, but he's very minor league.
