Lackey starting with Montgomery entering the game the moment anyone reaches base the 2nd time thru the order is probably the best case scenario. By starting Lackey you ensure that Montgomery(who could conceivably go 5 innings himself) gets matched up with the lefty heavy lineup, at least to start. You could apply the same approach to Zastryzny too, I think he and Montgomery are better used as immediate and multi-inning relief of different starters than as a combo.

I can get down with this

Also regardless of who we play I hope Joe is ready to bring Chapman in, in the 7th or 8th if we have a lead and Harper/Murhpy or Utley/Seager/Gonzalez are due up and they represent the tying run or if the tying/winning run is on base.

Yes. This. It baits them into using the lefty-heavy lineup, which they would be all too happy to oblige us with. Then you bring in the lefties out of the pen. And they are left with this choice: Let the lefty-heavy lineup stay in against our lefty arms or... remove those lefties out of the lineup so as not to face our lefty arms, which then means they can't be used again later in the game when we come back with power righty arms.

This ensures a healthy amount of left-on-left ABs, or it makes them twist and turn their lineup into a tizzy by trying to match up.

Small sample and all that, it just makes me nervous that his two worst outings have been when Joe brought him in before the 9th.

Same. I'm on the fence about it. Especially since we have some very good LOOGYs anyway.

Yes I've decided I want the Nats. I just don't like that the Dodgers can throw 7-8 LHB in the lineup and not sacrifice much production of any. Jake has had issues at times against LHB this year and Lackey has in past years I believe but not as much this year.

I mean I understand the recency bias and all but I'm a million times more confident Chapman comes out with a more favorable result coming in, in the 7/8 in a high leverage spot than Wood. And still more comfortably confident than Monty.

I don't want to wish an injury on anyone but I wouldn't mind if Murphy tweaked his ass cheek or whatever this game and was limited in the NLCS. Same goes for a Rich Hill blister

Did reynolds say there's no stopping Murphy on a ball that would he would have been out by a mile on if it was a decent throw?

I hate that I'm afraid of Daniel Murphy. He was such a non-descript player and yet, here we are.

He's not that non-descript. His wRC+ ranked 4th in baseball, right between Joey Votto and Josh Donaldson. Dude can rake. He's got great bat-to-ball skills and power to go with it, even if his plate discipline is lackluster. And his fielding kinda sucks. Vintage Aramis Ramirez at 2B for a comp?

Really thought he'd throw a high fastball to Gonzales with 2 strikes to set up one more changeup. Turns out he didn't need it. That thing is filthy to lefties.

Yeah, he was what?, a lifetime .420 SLG contact guy, but then has turned into a .580-.600 SLG behemoth.

I'm glad the light turned on for him just in time to completely ruin all our dreams.
