Ho hum. The bats are still kinda quiet, as Sofa alluded to earlier. Yet, we keep rolling through everyone in our path.

I figure they're just building up the reserve and then they're going to unleash a dong-flood in the postseason like they did last year.

It really speaks to how well-rounded this team is, though. When you are good at every facet of the game, you can win in whatever fashion you please. I've read a lot of stupid [expletive] in the last year or so, about, "Oh, well the playoffs are different. The pitching is better. And we can't just rely on hitting home runs. What are they going to do if the bats aren't going?" Well, this team is showing that, no, they don't even need the dong to win.

Oh yeah, a win is a win, and I love that this team isn't just a bunch of donging freaks like the Cardinals who suck at everything else. I just yearn for dongs.

Most definitely. There's nothing better than an enormous dong. And they'll come. And it will be glorious.

Since his return, Joe Smith's pitched 4 IP with 0/7 BB/K, 0 H, 0 R. I know that 4 innings is a very S.S.S., but we had no problem condemning him after his first 3.2.

He will no doubt be a great option in blowout playoff games as our 6th best relief pitcher

If Joe Smith really is secretly good, we're going to have a lot of guys with an argument for one of the final 2-3 bullpen spots.

Chapman, Rondon, Strop, and Edwards are locks.

Then you have Grimm, Montgomery, Zastryzny, Cahill, and Smith all doing well. And I think Pena has only really had one bad outing.

It got brought up in yesterday's thread but the fact that the Cubs could lose 25 straight games and still have a good chance of at least grabbing a wild card is amazing.

Especially because there are only 25 games left!

They'd still be favored to win the division. Neither the Cardinals or Pirates look like they are getting to the 89 wins the Cubs already have.

I'd have to believe that Grimm is a virtual lock at this point, barring him starting to struggle again.

Would factoring in the 6 wins they'd get from beating the Cubs change that at all or did you already take that into account?
