Schwarber goes down, we have Soler

Soler goes down, we (indirectly) have Javy

Dex goes down, we have Almora

Miggy goes down, we have Contreras

Yes not all of them are upgrades or equivalents but they aren't replacement level garbage either.

I guess you were not around in '69?

Tell us more grampa, tell us more.

Ah...I see. Knowledge of the game's history denotes geezerdom, huh?

No, but the allusion that something that happened nearly half a century has any relevance to a team full of guys who weren't even alive denotes trolldom.

At 9.5 back, they still won't be back in the division race, really.

How had they not swept us at Wrigley since '88?

Hard to believe given how many good STL teams and how many crappy Cubs teams existed in those intervening years.

Obviously it's awesome and all to hope we have a historically good team, but I'm cool with if we just play .500ish baseball the rest of the way like we have over the last 20 games or so and everyone gets healthy by October.

Yeah since they started out 24-6 they've gone 23-17 which is a 93 win pace. I'm fine with them playing at that pace the rest of the year but obviously I strive for and think they are capable of better. We will take our lumps while we have all these injuries but the upside is we are breaking in some talented players that will be valuable for us when we are back at full strength. All things you can live with when you build up a huge lead.

So I haven't been able to watch games this week, but I was obviously disappointed. In the other Arrieta losses recently, the umps were squeezing him, and letting the other pitcher throw off the plate for strikes. Did that happen today? I saw a half inning where Wacha was getting everything near the plate as a strike, but that was early in the game. Did Arrieta get the same calls? Seems he threw a lot of pitches.
