As suckynas this series was, the outcome made sense; a case of want vs. need, if you will. For us; it would have been nice to walk out with a 13.5 game division lead. But I doubt that this was weighing heavily on our guys' minds in mid June. For them, however, they were fighting for their lives, and this likely was on their minds, regardless of what the calendar said.

This isn't to say that we weren't playing at our usual level, it's just that we were playing at our usual level while they brought in that much more out of desperation.

stop trying to make stuff fit narratives. it's baseball. it had nothing to do with motivation or want or any such meatbally nonsense.

it wasn't a football game.

Yeah, the Cubs (for the most part) just had some crappy games. The Cardinals, despite their struggles, are a decent offensive team and managed to take the series. It doesn't require some kind of silly storyline to explain.

Its not even some crappy games. The first 2 games were 1 run games for the last 5-6 innings of each, and the Cubs had multiple opportunities to tie it and in both games they had the tying runner in scoring position in the 9th. We are 2 clutch hits from rubbing in another series win in their stupid faces. I'm not saying to not give them credit, they won fair and square just like we did in the close games we've won against them this year. I'm just saying there doesn't need to be some justification as to why they swept us. They won 2 games that could have gone either way and played really well in the 3rd game.
