That UMFan post is just more and more infuriating the more I read it.

In that you don't agree or that I made a list? The discussion was worst losses or something like that.

That in the middle of the most amazing season of all time you were able to instantly create a list of "worst losses." Like, why would your brain even so readily retain that knowledge unless it kinda hated you?

Would you have preferred a list of favorite airlines to fly?

3 worst losses of the year without thinking too hard:

1. Schwarber

2. Soler

3. Montero

I like the spirit of this post but I enjoyed the Grandpa Rossy resurgence way too much to consider that Montero break a loss in any sense.

I just feel bad for all of the bad things this team makes you feel.

Because I recall events that happened 3 weeks ago? I mean if I said "here is a list of the only 3 things I remember about the current Cubs season" you might have something. Otherwise it just sounds like youre letting out repressed anger out randomly.

nah, he's right

baseball has lots of losses. this team is amazing and there are no crucial games at this point so i have little recollection or care for any individual loss, no matter the circumstances. you should try it.

I'm probably as negative as any not-totally-crazy person here, and that STL game definitely pissed me off at the time, but I didn't actually remember how it ended until it was outlined in this thread.

Yeah, unless a loss was so bad it killed my dad or something it's basically instantly forgotten. I was at the game on Sunday and I have to keep reminding myself they actually lost.

Oh yeah, I forgot to talk about going to Sunday's game: we got the party deck deal or whatever the horsefeathers it is under the RF scoreboard. Amazing seats, plenty of room to walk around and amazing setup with all the food and drinks you could handle just, like, 10 feet behind you. Hot Doug sat in front of us and it was cool meeting him, and the Diamondback's corporate attorney sat across from us and let me check out his 2001 WS ring. Then he got security to loom behind one of my friends for talking too much trash at the D-Back's RFer. I tried to convince him to yell something at the lawyer about getting Grace off with his DUI, but he wasn't willing to go to baseball jail.

Worst loss and the 2 runners up:

2nd runner up: May 11th vs. San Diego. Cubs had a 4-2 lead into the 7th, Cubs were cruising toward their 8th straight win. In the 7th, Hendricks gets the first 2 outs easily, then an innocent little bunt single sends Hendricks to the showers and then the Cubs implode giving up 4 runs and losing 7-4

1st runner up: May 3rd vs. Atlanta. Cubs are somehow stymied by the hapless Braves until the 8th when they score 2 runs to trail by 1. The Cubs come all the way back in the 9th off a Russell single, but then Rondon comes in and loses the game in the 10th.

Winner: May 24th @ St. Louis. No need to elaborate on this one.

What the what.

I want to punch this post so badly.

I don't even have any idea what that May 24th game is. And I'm not gonna pull up Baseball Reference to find out.

If the Cubs finish the year 52-52, they will end up 93-69. And probably still make the playoffs.

I wonder what date we will be able to say "If the Cubs finish .500 from here on out they will end up with 100 wins." Would have to get to 38 over .500 to say that. We're currently at 24 over.

22-8 between now and the ASG would get us there.

I also got so goddamned sunburned. Like, even somehow through my thick, luscious head of hair.

Should've worn those pants on your head I guess.

I don't remember the score of any of the Arizona games and I watched all three. I'm glad my brain doesn't remember daily sports events like some of yours do

I'm trying to recall if this team has even had a wire-to-wire shellacking this season and I don't think we have. Even that "worst" loss of the season, 13-5 to the Reds, we had the lead and Lackey and the bullpen just imploded late.

I don't think there's been like a 8-0 just pounding from 1st inning to 9th. It may not be possible against this team.

Anyway, musings from one of those poor souls that doesn't forget.

Same here. Even that 4-8 stretch I didn't really care because they went 1-8 in games decided by 3 or fewer runs (1-7 by 2 or fewer) and I knew that wasn't going to continue. Normally when fans don't get bothered by losses, it's because the team is terrible. It's so rare to have a team that's so certain to win it's division that a few losses really don't matter. Fangraphs has the Cubs at 97.4 to win the division, next best is Washington at 67.0. BP is 97.4 and Cleveland is second at 69.9. 538 has the Cubs at only a 93% chance to win the division. Washington is at 65.

They've had 1 loss by more than 5 runs this year and even that one was a 9-5 game after the top of the seventh against a terrible Reds bullpen. They've had only 2 other losses by more than 3 runs, and one of those (the Dodgers) was 0-0 going into the eighth inning. The other one the Rockies led the whole way and the Cubs never really threatened.

So there's been 2 games where the Cubs didn't really have a chance to win in the last couple innings.

I feel like I remember losses easier than some wins because it's more of a surprise. When we were a losing team wins stood out more.

Of course stunning wins and stunning losses will both be memorable in any type of season.

To add on, since I just started to listen to the Rany pod, the Cubs have 1 loss by 3 runs which means of their 17 losses, 13 have been either by 1 or 2 runs. So, as Rany said, there have only been 4 games where the Cubs haven't had the tying run on deck in the ninth inning.
