It's more that he's having bad ABs up until the point that he gets a hit. Some bad swings early in counts.

It seems like every at bat goes like this: 1st pitch down the middle, taken for a strike. 2nd pitch, swing wildly at something out of the zone. Then the at bat starts.

Earlier this year it was: Take for a ball, check swing take at a pitch down and well off the plate, then swing as hard as possible no matter watch pitch comes next (usually offspeed)
