You'll find a reason to bitch about anything. The guy has given up 4 ER ALL YEAR. Why? Nobody can hit him.

Of course every team could always use another premier arm in the pen. I have to admit, though, I feel kind of bad for Rondon. He allows the 2nd fewest baserunners in baseball, ahead of Miller, Chapman, Betances, etc and even after getting Montgomery the talk is still about adding a big arm in the pen. I get it, I do. I want a pen full of closers and "firemen". I just think Rondon flies under the radar, even in Chicago.

Well that's an odd response and not really true.

I think mainly because ALL YEAR is 31 innings. His peripherals are not good.

How about a lesser package for Oakland's Daniel Mendgen? He throws with a lot of deception. He cooked off a lot after a hot start.

He can sit in the minors until September and compete for a starting job next year.

So, Levine says the two teams we're talking to the most are Tampa and Oakland.

I am ignoring any contrary evidence to prop up the fantasy that Archer is the target we're after.

- He's past the injury nexus and has proven to be durable, but he still has 3-5 years of team control

- His performance this year should suppress his value a bit(or cause the Rays to doubt enough to pull the trigger on dealing him) but it's still plenty logical to see him as a TOR guy moving forward

- Soler being a main piece makes sense given their OF situation and also explains the Reddick/Bruce rental rumors

- The Dodgers' interest could be manufactured(they'll trade prospects when they're cold and dead from TJS thank you very much) to try and drive up the price

- Tampa wouldn't shy away from taking better prospects at lower levels, so Torres could be another main piece

I don't think there has ever been a TT post I've disagreed with

Crap, I missed the fine print.

I think I'd be OK with giving up a ransom for him. I think I'd take Odorizzi or Moore, plus Colome, if the cost was the same.

Nope nope, get the ace and run

I think they can get Colome with Archer anyway.

I'm not convinced Archer is an ace moving forward. No one truly can be. Colome has very solid value in his own right. It'd definitely cost a top 100 type and a top 10 in a system type for JUST him. Getting him and Archer together? I'd love it, but I think its very unrealistic.

Archer's a much, much better bet for that status than either Moore or Odorizzi. The precedent's there recently for a high quality/ceiling reliever going with an established player or SP in a trade with Hamels/Diekman, Heyward/Walden, and Shields/Davis, and you'd certainly be paying enough for a good but not really uncommon enough type of reliever like Colome in a hypothetical Archer trade.

Solid points. Age and contract-wise, none of those comps truly match up. But its enough of a reminder for me to have a bit of hope, at least.

I wonder if LAD would be interested in a Soler for De Leon move. Cubs could throw him in the pen this year and put him in the rotation next year.

I'd be very interested in picking up Drew Storen to work with/rebuild now that he's DFA'd. Am curious about the loss of velocity on his fastball, but at his age and history, it'd be a nice pickup to try out.

For sure. If we are giving Joe Nathan a chance, how can Storen not be part of the convo?

Sources: The Diamondbacks have let teams know Shelby Miller is available in a trade. Price isn't nearly what it cost them eight months ago.- Passan

From what I'm hearing, wouldn't be shocked if the Cubs completed a deal today / in the next 24 hours.

In fact, I'd put the chances of a deal going down before tomorrow midday at well above 50 percent.

Or should have even paid that 8 months ago.
