I really want us to add a SP at this point. We're not likely to trade Eloy AND Happ, in my eyes, but who knows, I guess? If anything, my head tells me neither of them are going anywhere. Of course, that would mean no Archer type addition. But we could add a pretty interesting youngster, depending on what we give up.

I don't see Schwarber or Javy going anywhere. To me, they're even safer than Eloy or Happ. If we hold on to that group of 4, what does it leave and how would you rank them, in order of value?

1. Almora- I don't see us trading him either, but if we plan on keeping Dex or moving Heyward to CF next year, he's the best chip we've got, in my mind.

2. Soler- Easy to trade, but how low would we be selling? If his legit value is a year and a half of Eovaldi, is it worth it to move him? I'm not even a fan, but I'd have a hard time with a deal like that.

3. Candelario- On his own, my guess is he's got slightly more value than Vogelbach did. He's blocked, so I'd say he's probably the single safest bet to move at this point.

4. Zagunis- Again, I'd say he's in Vogelbach territory value-wise.

5. Caratini- Dead horse here, but around Vogelbach value, on his own.

I would include Cease here, he'd be 3rd, behind Almora and Soler, for me. But considering his value is diminished by what level he's at and the fact that he could become very relevant with a handful of A Ball starts, I'll leave him off, thinking we'd wait until he's got more value than he does currently, before cashing in......

Wild Cards- Szczur- Personally, I think he's a Reed Johnson type and that has value. But I'd doubt he's got any trade value. So I see him sticking around.

Seal Boy- I guess I'd put him in Candelario territory value-wise? He's a nice lefty bench guy that's a solid spot starter, on occasion. Not sure if Sharma knew we were trying to deal him a bit ago or what, but it seemed like it. So, while he's got options and is a solid enough backup, I guess he's a guy I could see move!

Grimm- No, I don't THINK he's going anywhere. But our pen is full, he's pitching well again and I guess its conceivable we could capitalize, with CJ looking good.

Anyway, don't even know exactly why I did this......But I'd have to think we're still looking at impact moves and not just depth, as I think I saw quoted from Theo earlier today.

Can a package of Soler/Candelario/Grimm, for instance, bring back a Paxton type?(just an example) Or is it more likely we'll trade Eloy or Happ at this stage?

Anyway, my complete and total guess is we add a depth SP(Buccholz maybe) and a Reddick type OFer. Maybe Beltran even. But I'd love to see a bigger and longer impact type added. I'm just unsure if we've got the ability to do it without it really hurting. As "all in" as the Chapman move is, do you actually see us moving Eloy/Happ/Almora? Or Schwarber/Javy even? Or does the above package I mentioned get us something relatively decent?

Blue Jays acquired OF Melvin Upton and cash considerations from the Padres for RHP Hansel Rodriguez.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports hears that the Padres will cover all but $5 million of the roughly $22 million remaining on Upton's contract. The 31-year-old has enjoyed a resurgent season with the Padres and will provide some depth and versatility to the Blue Jays' outfield. While the ballpark change is a positive, he might lose a couple of starts a week and probably won't run as much. His fantasy value takes a bit of a dip with the trade. Since the Padres are in Toronto this week, Upton will just have to switch dugouts on Tuesday.

And we're under a week til the deadline.

Any chance there's a move to made for a deal structured along the lines of Soler, Haap for Blackmon, Jon Gray?

LHH OF who can back up all three positions and is under control for a couple seasons and a cost controlled SP that would benefit from the move from Coors (not to mention I'd love for him to be Bosio'd)

It'd hurt to lose Jorge, but helps to solve a long standing problem. Based on the trade market, it seems like the value of not-yet-established young starting pitching is the prime opportunity to acquire talent.

Long time reader first time poster here. With Chapman now in the fold and the bullpen hopefully fixed. Are the Cubs done? I still think we could use a starter and a outfielder. Would Thoyer go one stop shopping with Oakland? It seems like it would make sense. Reddick and Gray would look great on paper. The only question is what would it cost? Would Soler/Almora/Candelario and Cease get it done? Thats assuming they don't want to trade Happ and Eloy. Soler is very expendable now that Contreras has proven he can handle Left and be that right handed bat in the LF platoon. Almora is great defensively, but are we really going to give him CF next year? Even if we reach our goal this fall and win a championship, next year they will want to try to make another run at a championship. Fowler will be back. They will find the money for him.

Tom Loxas floated a Candelario for Reddick trade rumor onto twitter and his follow up comments suggest "im not saying this is legit inside info but im not not saying this is legit inside info"

Gammons was on MLB Network talking about possible A's trades and said they were working on a deal with the Cubs for Reddick that fell through. No timeline or details.

Ugh. "Player X coming back from the DL counts as a trade or whatever" is always lame. The only way this wouldn't suck is if Soler was inexplicably introduced at a PC like he was a new player and Schwarber came out from behind a curtain and pushed him into a dumpster and revealed he had magically healed months ahead of time.

Stop mentioning Baez name in trades. I guarantee he's Bryant/Rizzo/Russell untouchable. Look at the year he's putting up, he's also only 23. Teams are looking to develop players like him because of the way he's played. Baez deserves respect

isn't that pretty much what everyone has said about Javy in this thread?

I'd trade the hell out of Baez. I think there's, like, 3 guys I'd say are untouchable.

Nobody is untouchable. Id trade our untouchables 1 for 1 for Trout & probably Harper.

I say only probably Harper because KBs positional value & contract might make them close. But off top of my head id still make the deal and run with Javy at 3b.

Bryant would be a hard no for Harper. As you pointed out with the contract, Harper has two years of control left and Bryant five. Not even close.

No horsefeathering way he isn't.

A guy who has to be protected against right handed pitching in order to have an acceptable slash line is nowhere near untouchable and is worth nowhere near what Bryant and Rizzo are worth.

This is an impossible opinion to disagree with. It might as well be a fact.

I just can't see the Angels GM trading us Trout right now and telling Theo he wants either Bryant or Javy in the package but that he will let Theo decide which one.

I wouldn't even trade Bryant for Trout right now. How does getting Trout but giving up Bryant actually improve the Cubs? It would only get worse knowing that the Angels would receive more than just Bryant in any trade that returns Trout.

Well, Trout is a better baseball player.

He is, but not by enough to offset the control and surplus value.
