Yankees now have more top 100 prospects than any other team.

Masterful deadline for Cashman for 2 rentals (a reliever and a DH), one they will probably re-sign this offseason, an elite late inning reliever and mediocre 4th starter. The Yankees don't really lose a whole lot while they built a fantastic farm system and position themselves to be the evil empire again during the monster 2017-2018 FA class. Very impressed.

Or they're gonna use their new prospect haul to acquire 30-something veteran players and compete next year.

I had no idea Lucius Fox - baseball player was a thing until this afternoon, but he is now my favorite non-cub.

The number one story for me is 2015 4.9 fWAR ROY runner up was just traded for garbage ass below average hasn't had a FIP under 4.49 since 2013 Matt Moore. The Giants are hella scary now and going forward, so them selling low on that guy is looking real nice right now.

So the Mets may try Bruce in CF, which is amazing because as bad as Cespedes and Granderson are in CF, they're miles better than Bruce would be.

Their pitchers should be weeping at the prospect.

They will probably trade most of them since the FA market sucks this offseason.

This reminds me of when they forced infielders into the OF in the 90's - fee like it was their Jeff Kent era, but can't remember exactly. Its a very Metsy thing to do.

Remember when we were all upset about having Kyle Hendricks instead of Randall Delgado because of a vetoed trade?

No. I remember being upset that the Delgado thing fell through, then there was the whole he'd only accept a trade to the Dodgers so they had all the leverage and we'd end up being screwed, then I remember being relieved when we ended up with a the kind of package that we'd expected to get before Delgadogate happened; a back end of the top 100 prospect (Villanueva) and maybe another piece (Hendricks.)

You're lucky I'm too lazy to look up what you actually wrote.

They have been all year anyways, being that they're all hurt.

I've been arguing with some people on Twitter who are trying to tell me that Jay Bruce is a gold glove caliber RF.

Well, that's your first mistake...

Should've listened to Derwood.

One downside to the Liriano trade is that even when he's down, he absolutely owns the Cardinals, and would probably have started a couple more games against them this year.

The Cubs were interested in starting pitching and had discussions with the Rays over the weekend for 27-year-old left-hander Matt Moore, who has a 4.08 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and is under team control through 2019. Tampa Bay asked for Chicago infielder Javier Baez, 23, and two top minor league players in exchange for Moore, according to a major league source. Asking for Baez was a non-starter, as the Cubs highly value his versatility and he’s arguably the most improved player in the organization.

Makes sense as the Rays eventually got Duffy and 2 prospects for him. I wouldn't consider either of the 2 prospects to be "top" and (putting my homer hat on) Baez > Duffy, but its a similar package in terms of pieces dealt. The Rays tried with the Cubs and ended up with a lesser package with SF.

I am guessing Bryant + Russell would've maybe gotten us Archer?

With a kicker of Happ and Cease.

strongly disagree with WS odds changes...saw that argument repeated here during the trade but i honestly don't think it properly accounts for high leverage innings Lefty Ike Turner will be used in, and likewise quality of competition

I was surprised that the Giants got Moore and that we didn't end up with any Starting Pitcher at the deadline. But Moore was the only one dealt and if that was the asking price then I am glad that they said no. Hopefully the offseason our pursuit of a starting pitcher will be more successful.

we didn't/don't need a starter, at all, and as the Chapman deal probably indicated there seems to be a much higher premium at the deadline (Torres, McKinney, +, for < 1/2 season of use) that you aren't paying in the Winter (Rookie Davis, Jagielo, whatever)

fairly confident we can swing a deal for a replacement level starter after the deadline without giving up baez

Had a quick look through what players we could look at in the winter. Sharma's latest article is interesting linking the Blue Jays, Braves and Reds. Think we line up with the Reds the best with regard a trading partner apart from the fact they are in our division.

Think Amir Garrett, Cody Reed or Robert Stephenson would be pitchers we might look at. Candelario, Soler, Caratini & Zagunis are players we could consider trading.

I'd do Soler plus or Jimenez plus for 2 of them.
