Bruce, 29, has spent his entire nine-year career with the Reds. He leads the National League in RBIs this season with 80 to go along with 25 homers and a .265 batting average. He becomes the first player traded during the season while leading the league in RBIs since the stat became official in 1920, according to Elias Sports Bureau.

who the horsefeathers cares?

Hopefully, that's not the headliner either. I hope Billy got one of DeLeon, Bellinger, or Verdugo in this....

That is a huge haul for 2 rental players.

I would've rather kept Matusz

Smith isn't that bad, but I'd just as soon stick with Grimm, et. al

He's pretty bad. 5.97 K/9, 3.11 BB/9, 14.8 HR/FB%, FIP/xFIP in the mid 4s, -.1 fWAR, averages only 88 MPH on his FB. Grimm is better

Yeah, that's pretty much what I was saying there. Just that he's probably better than Matusz.

I'm just not a huge fan of Hill. Or rather Hill's ability to actually give you innings. I feel like it's 50/50 as to whether or not he spends most of the remainder of the season on the DL, or in some way incapacitated.

If he doesn't cost much meh why not.

Because you can only keep 25 guys on ML roster and he wouldn't be among 25 best players

My first thought after looking at Joe Smith's stats was "why?". Seems like we have a few better in house options than Joe Smith.

What well run organizations.

Gotta love hypocritical Marlins. That dude they traded for Rodney a few weeks back(Paddack) is already down and set to have TJS.

I can just see Loria sitting in his office being furious and yelling out "That's the last time we do a trade without a damn physical!" like it's some weird old school way of doing business that he's grown tired of.

Speaking of which....

12:37pm: ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick now tweets that a medical issue may be holding up the Mets’ acquisition of Bruce. Crasnick adds that the severity of the issue isn’t known, but the medicals are no longer a formality.

I've been arguing with some people on Twitter who are trying to tell me that Jay Bruce is a gold glove caliber RF.

Tell them he plays defense like he's using the actual golden glove from the trophy.

Well, that's your first mistake...

Yeah, I know better, but I was so dumbfounded by the assertion that Bruce is a defensive wizard that I couldn't help myself.

Depends on your point of view. Arguing on twitter can be just what my day calls for from time to time.

It's more agonizing than amusing, but there are times when it's some good fun. Usually I just sit back and watch some of my dumb friends get into Twitter fights.
