I hope Wellemeyer bought two tickets, he needs two seats to fit his shoulders in

Best comment by Bako was I asked him if Hendricks reminded him of Maddox (because he was his personal catcher in Atlanta). Response was “Doggy could throw in the 90s if he wanted to.”

Mostly pretty boring - Pelo Fino is my favorite other than of course El Mago (and Herbie made me laugh)

Pelo Fino is great, he kinda has that Billy Dee Williams thing going on with his hair. And agree on Hancock, hilarious. Hendricks should be "Carl" -- isn't that what the team calls him?

This move surprised me. I would have thought Bass was a part of the September discussion, perhaps though not likely 25th man on postseason roster. You wouldn't do this, then add him right back to the 40 man would you? I guess him clearing maybe gives an indication he wouldn't get rule 5 claimed if that comes into play with Bass being a possible 2019 option.

According to Fangraphs the Cubs are at 86.6% chance to win the division. 97.4% to make the postseason. The Dodgers are the next closest team in the NL at 81.9% to make the postseason. Not bad considering the Rizzo slump, the Bryant injury and the starting rotation being trash.

As a follow up to the Anthony Bass decision, it seems CubsProspects had a noteworthy take on it. Very likely end of the road between Mr. Bass & the Cubs:

Thanks for posting that. I'm also very confused by this decision. I was a big fan of Bass and thought he was very solid in his time up here. I don't know why they took him off the 40-man roster and exposed him. We could certainly use him in September if healthy. I don't understand the rationale behind this move at all.

He’s a 30 year old RP who was good for ~10 innings then got hand foot and mouth disease and then another injury. We’re going to need to make 40-man moves for Yu and Smyly in the next 2-3 weeks and maybe also add a guy through waivers. It made sense to “risk” it to clear a 40-man spot. Also if nobody else claimed him, what does that tell us about him?

In his only two outings since coming back from Hand Foot and Mouth (before getting hurt again) he went 1IP 3H 4ER 1HR 2BB

Can anyone explain where Jim Hickey falls with the underwhelming performance of the Cubs pitching staff this season? Has he made anyone better??

I get that Lester is getting up there in age, so he's bound to eventually lose effectiveness. And I get that Darvish is injured. But what about everyone else. The only pitcher that seems to have made strides from last year is Wilson. Monty has been good, but really similar to how he pitched last year...just starting more.

Q - inconsistent.

Hendricks - inconsistent.

Chatsuck - DISASTER

Most of the relievers have been decent to good with some occasional hiccups. But they've all been pretty good in the past before Hickey. If Chili is to blame (rightfully) for the Cubs diminished power, than Hickey certainly has to take a fair share of blame for the pitching woes.
