Kind of surprised the ball getting stuck on Molina's chest protector from today's game isn't becoming a bigger story. One of two things is obviously happening; #1, the pitcher is adding something to the ball which is fine up to a point, but if he's adding so much that it's adhereing to a flat surface, then you're affecting the transfer of power from the bat to the ball. Option 2, Molina is putting sticky horsefeathers all over his chest protector to keep balls in front of him which should significantly tarnish his legacy as a so called defensive genius. I just find it strange that if a star player had a corked bat it would be all over the news, but with today's incident there's a few articles and mostly nothing besides.

Yadi's post game interview a reporter asks him if he put any substance on his chest protector. Yadi seems to get agitated and calls it a "dumb question" all the while he plays incredulous to the whole situation. Actually Yadi, it's not a dumb question. Are you putting a substance on your chest protector to help keep balls in front of you? Are you wiping the ball on your chest protector before throwing the ball back to your pitcher? Regardless that chest protector has probably found it's way to the nearest incinerator.

There's clearly no white smudge on his chest protector before the ball gets there, and then there's an obvious spot after the ball is pulled off. Seems to me that the ball was probably gunked up by the Cecil. That, or Yadi has some serious stickum on his chest protector, to the point that pulling the ball off ripped up some of the external layer with it.

The more I think about this the less likely it seems that this was some sort of insanely unlikely fluke, which is what I categorized it as upon my first, cursory view of the play. To be fair, even if the ball was tampered with AND the chest protector was coated, that play would be pretty flukey. But if I had to wager, I'd bet that Cecil was doctoring the ball a bit.

The 2006 Cubs were 66-96 overall but 11-8 against the World Series Champion Cardinals, ergo the Cubs were better than the World Series champions

A guy that I know at work says that Gammons said on the Score this morning that they found spray adhesive used for ace wrap bandages on Molina's chest protector.

Maybe explains why balls in the dirt don't bounce far away from Molina. It might not necessarily be pitchers putting gunk on the ball.

There's no way Cecil could put that much adhesive on a ball that it would stick to Molina's chest protector. It would be pretty hard for Cecil to have any control with that much adhesive on it. The larger surface having a sticky substance makes a lot more sense.

How long has Molina been doing this? Will there be a rule against this and will everyone call it the Molina rule.

I heard that Gammons interview this morning, not to contradict your guy at work but Gammons never said that. There was speculation about it but there was no confirmation.

Gotcha. I was kinda hoping someone else heard it and would confirm/deny it, cuz it surely isn't being reported anywhere else.

...and then hit him with it a few times.
