Spiegel and Holmes for the afternoon drive on 670. Bernstein and Marshall Harris middays. Goff turned down the afternoon drive because Audacy wanted him to give up his Ringer podcast and some other unnamed things. Don’t know how he was going to do Bulls pre and post and also do 670 afternoon drive either.

I liked Bernstein & Holmes together, but I guess they needed to pair a bigger name with Spiegel.

I get the feeling Holmes wanted to move away from Bernstein but I could be wrong

I think Bernstein and Holmes was a decent pairing, and I wish Goff was coming back, but hats off to him not bending over for 670 and doing his own thing.

“One stumbling block has emerged as central to the impasse — a poison pill, if you will. The cable carrier doesn’t like that CHSN is giving away the sports programming for free to over-the-air viewers, according to sources familiar with the situation.

Comcast is balking at any deal with CHSN because it objects to paying for content available for free over the air, according to sources. As one industry source put it, “Here’s a free ice cream cone (here), but you have to pay $5 for the ice cream cone over here. I would go get the free ice cream cone.”

Feel free to ignore because its about my grudge against a stupid obscure Chicago media person, but: I was just reminded that Hub Arkush, who everyone at the Score reveres as a football genius, was pushing JJ McCarthy as the best QB in the draft. Even without seeing a single snap of McCarthy, and just thinking about the Jayden Daniels and Caleb Williams match up we're expecting, what a horsefeathers moronic thing to have said. Just, astounding in it's stupidity.

Hub went to Michigan and clearly has Michigan bias

All well and good to be biased towards your alma mater but if you're purporting to be some football soothsayer you can't be saying horsefeathers like that especially when... it's so ludicrous it almost comes across as racist.

$20 per month...per team.  Obvious the goal is to drive the Chicago sports fan to the $300 per year thing or at the very least $30 per month (if you aren't a Sox fan, watching the Bulls and Blackhawks would be $240 a year with the $30 bundle from Oct - April).

The problem is the teams involved are all terrible.  Maybe if they can't get a deal done with XFinity they will be motivated to put better teams out there to drive up subscriptions to the app.

You'd have to pay me to watch the White Sox and Bulls and I simply don't care about hockey enough to even consider $240.

Jerry won’t be motivated by that lol. Only if he was promised public funding for his new stadium.

That pricing model is a complete non-starter.

What I'm interested to see is whether they are committed to the free over the air channel long term, or are they eventually going to pull the rug out from under the free viewers after they have a deal with Xfinity?

Their page says they will eventually have a tower in Peoria IL and several other places as well. Why they weren't prepared to have them ready before the season started is the biggest blunder of them all. That sports app isn't going to make it at those prices. People will laugh at that. Most of them will want Bulls/Blackhawks, but not at $40 a month. And the $30 offering gives the appearance people want the White Sox, which they probably won't. I've already debated getting the Marquee app for next season, but $20 for that AND $30 for Bulls/Hawks/White Sox? horsefeathers no. I'll keep streaming illegally since they pretty much forced me to do so anyway. Or at least until they get the antenna working in Peoria.

It's an insane proposition. I hate paying the $20/month for Marquee, but at least in that scenario I'm getting 25 games a month out of it. The Hawks play 12 games in November.

There’s definitely a value. But at the same time it’s generally cheaper to attend cubs games than hawks games at the same time. It’s not unreasonable for it to be cheaper to watch cubs games on tv.  I watch them primarily through espn+ and Max. I don’t currently get any local NY sports channels since ditching directv. I might end up getting the msg app somebody but not now.

It's not that much cheaper. these days. I'm probably moving the goalposts a little bit here, but the worst seat at the United Center (for a Hawks game) is a lot better than the worst seat at Wrigley. I'm pretty comfortable going on TM/Stubhub and picking the cheapest seat available for the Hawks, whereas for the Cubs it'd have to be a pretty elite game to be down the lines or super far under the overhang, so I'm usually paying more than it would technically take just to get in the door.

Bottom line, none of those three teams have shown anything close to deserving that kind of financial commitment at this point. You'd think they would realize that and get people on a cheaper, auto-renewing payment plan and then justify a price increase based on improved performance (even if just regression to the mean).

https://awfulannouncing.com/local-networks/chicago-sports-network-marquee-merger-possible-comcast-dispute.html

Hilarious...that super special network the Cubs launched to increase revenues which clearly made a dramatic impact on the Cubs fortunes may be merging with CHSN because both networks are having trouble getting on/staying on Comcast.  So basically we may be back to where we started.  Those 7 documentaries that Marquee plays over and over again were well worth it though as well as replaying every Shota start last year as "classic Cubs games"
