Last year was the first season in MLB history where the league recorded more strikeouts than hits

In 2008, there were 11,000+ more hits than strikeouts

Yeah, it's not a good trend. I don't know about moving the mound back and/or lowering it (unintended consequences and whatnot). I certainly don't trust Rob Manfred to fix the problem.

Though it is sadly hilarious that, much like the surge in dongs, this super pitching appears to be something the Cubs were somehow missing out on.

(Cue some jackass with stats about how the Cubs' strikeout numbers were actually amazing last year)

The Cubs were tied for 11th in the NL and 19th in MLB in K%, so there is no gotcha coming.

However, they were 3rd in ERA in 2018, 7th in 2017, 1st in 2016 and 3rd in 2015.

Under Hendry, the Cubs regularly led baseball in strikeouts. This administration obviously does not believe them to be paramount. While it is pretty tempting to say that they don't know pitching, they are obviously effective at putting teams together that are very good at run prevention.

to be fair, after looking up the k's, they were 2nd in 2015 and 3rd in 2016.

Braves and Acuna nearing a 100 mil extension

One less stud for PTR to worry about paying in the 2024 offseason

8/100

2 option years so it could max at 10/124

Owners must be so wet right now.

Yep. They collectively scared players off of free agency. I can’t believe how quickly and affectively it happened.

That’s such a shitty deal for Acuna. I don’t blame him for taking it and wanting to lock in generational money now, but that deal falls pretty damn short of the deal he should’ve gotten if he’s signing an 8 year +2 team option year deal that buy out FA for only $24 mil combined. He must have just really wanted to lock in money/needed it for his family or whatever no matter what and/or these guys are scared shitless of risking hitting FA after the last 2 offseasons.

Can’t really blame a young twenty-something year old, many from impoverished backgrounds/countries, for taking the sure thing eight and nine figure contracts. Lots of baseball players (and athletes in general) flame out and or get injured.

What sucks is when the guys who do flame out under these deals get to become the foundation for a rookie deal cap. Eventually someone will be the MLB’s JaMarcus Russell

that already happened

What would it take to trade for Mitch Haniger?

He has 3 ARB years after this year. Happ, Amaya and Marquez I’d guess. I probably do that too.
