It's Charles Cushner that is trying to buy the Marlins, apparently. Given his background is in real-estate it's not overly surprising it's a heavy debt laden deal he's trying to get done to buy the team (and his net worth is "only" $1.8 billion, so he can't have anywhere close to the cash on hand to get this done under MLB's debt ratio standards) so it makes sense he's the anonymous guy Loria has with a deal structure that MLB typically doesn't allow. Not even getting into the PR angle of it of him being a convicted felon and his ties/relationship to Trump.

My irrational overwhelming hatred for all things that is Carter Capps' delivery will not be quenched until he is laying on the mound with his leg shattered.

I have no idea why watching his delivery pisses me off so much.

He must be destroyed.

i'll never understand how this is allowed.

Its because they have always allowed a pitcher's foot to leave the mound for an instant before they release the ball to the plate, so long as it was a part of their natural throwing motion. That slippery slope situation has lead to...this atrocity.

So Mike Illitch quietly paid for Rosa Parks' apartment in downtown Detroit from 1994 until she died in 2005. That was apparently mentioned back in 2014 but I don't recall seeing it, must not have gotten much fanfare.

But in 1994, Parks was robbed and assaulted in her home at the age of 81

.

Keith, himself an important legal figure in the civil rights movement, worked to find Parks a new, safer apartment at the Riverfront Apartments in Detroit, according to the Sports Business Daily.

Ilitch read the story in the newspaper and called Keith, offering to pay for Parks' housing indefinitely. With no fanfare, Ilitch continued paying for the apartment until Parks died in 2005, Keith said.

The Parks' donation further shows Ilitch's commitment to Detroit, where he was born and raised. Ilitch established Little Caesars headquarters there, owned the Detroit Tigers and Red Wings, and helped usher in a new era for the city, Keith told WXYZ.

this is hysterical. Can we team him up with Lester?

Wtf...this is a much bigger issue than Lester's...throwing back to the pitcher happens kind of often.

that was really interesting, thanks for sharing.

at the risk of derailing the general baseball chit-chat thread, when i'm working with students i always try to eliminate the stigma attached to reaching out for mental health help. i am a firm believer that literally every single person would benefit from talking to a therapist once in a while. you don't have to be depressed or suicidal or anything to benefit from bouncing your feelings off of a completely trustworthy and unbiased person.

The Cornbelters of Normal, Il host a Legends game each year, with a few former MLB players. This year's roster includes: Bob Dernier, Rick Ankiel, Brian Jordan, Mike Fontenot, Jose Canseco, Mitch Williams, Carlos Zambrano, and Mark Prior.

I can only assume Prior will be throwing a towel session on the side. (Has enough time passed to use that again?)

*edit*

Prior isn't listed on the Cornbelter's page yet, but was mentioned here: http://www.pantagraph.com/sports/professional/baseball/minor/cornbelters/ex-cub-pitcher-prior-to-play-in-legends-game/article_afa8b9ad-5207-51db-9065-9b948905f4c6.html

In yet another horsefeathers you to Pete Rose, the Baseball Hall of Fame has announced that its newest inductee will be a cartoon character whose greatest achievement on the field is getting beaned in the head. Homer Simpson will join the ranks of so many great players who aren’t Pete Rose in a special ceremony on May 27, celebrating the 25th anniversary of “Homer At The Bat,” and at least the 10,000th time someone has quoted the line, “It’s like there’s a party in mouth and everyone’s invited.”

Petco Park is flooded.

San Diego Padres spokeswoman Shana Wilson told FOX 5 an amount of rain had fallen so quickly the drainage was slow to keep up. Field crews do not anticipate any damage from the standing water.
