Davis hurt again? My God the man is a walking, talking injury.

I've never seen a player who every time they get hit with a baseball they literally break.

I see Horton isn't on the Iowa roster.  Is this April weather related, or they just want him in AA again for a bit?  Or maybe they're delaying his start of the season to give more depth down the stretch for the Cubs MLB team.

McGeary is also starting in AA again, which might have to do with the roster crunch in Iowa more than anything.  Aliendo is also starting in AA.

Peralta stayed in AZ to continue building his elbow/arm.  Apparently he can still only hit and not field/throw yet.  Brennen Davis also staying in AZ for an extra 1-2 weeks, his injury is undisclosed but not serious.

"Davis won't join Triple-A Iowa on Friday for the start of the minor-league season and will remain at the Cubs' spring facility while he recovers from a minor undisclosed injury, Tommy Birch of The Des Moines Register reports.  Davis isn't expected to be headed for an extended absence, as Birch relays that the outfielder will stay in Arizona for about a week or two before reporting to Iowa."

Arizona Phil
INF Derniche Valdez (the Cubs top 2023 IFA signing and the organization's # 1 prospect in the DSL last season) has been placed on the Restricted List. He had been in Minor League Camp with the Mesa (Extended Spring Training) group.

AZPhil updated the pitching comments.  Arias has been moved to the pen at AA, and Gallardo has been bumped to the rotation.  Tennessee is now Horton/Franklin/Birdsell/Nolan/Gallardo.  Have to imagine Arias's presence on the 40 man facilitated this.

Seems kinda messed up to speculate character issues on some teenager based on the scant info actually available

I made the post at an early time. I understand why you may see "off-field" issues and there's a certain connotation there but had I meant "character issues" I'd have said that. What I meant was "everything that can occur to someone off the baseball field" and meant zero speculation of what those things may (or may not) be. The restricted list is used for "unusual circumstances that may exist" per the MLB.  Maybe I could have said "other non-baseball-related-issues", which would be a fair critique, but I simply meant that I'd hope it was an easy to fix situation like a visa and nothing else; with that said, it's never a good thing for someone to be on the restricted list. At the same time, I think my time on NSBB has shown that I'm not the kind of person who speculates wildly about teenagers and what their personalities may or may not be, so a bit of "benefit of the doubt" would be appreciated in the future, as well, without suggesting I'd do something like that.

Arias to the pen seems pretty logical.

Edwards!  That's fun.  Not to pull the plug too soon, but I'm thinking having an alternative to Almonte might be nice.

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe not yet. And maybe Almonte straightens out, But they will move around the last few spots in the pen at some point during the year. So glad to maybe have Edwards back.

Is there any update on how Jaxon Wiggins is progressing from TJ? He should be around 14 months removed from surgery now.

Saw that PCA started in LF a few games ago, with Canario in CF.  Not a bad idea to give PCA some experience at the other 2 positions.

I think that was more about giving Canario a few starts in center. Let him play there a little. If/when PCA comes up I suspect he will play 99% of the time in center.

I think I saw that he was already throwing to hitters during spring training.  So he didn't start with an affiliate but I would expect he's going to make his debut not too deep into the season.  May probably?

That’s what I was hoping to hear. I’ll be interested to see how he looks. I know he’s a guy they were excited to get into the lab. I was just hoping he was actually progressing well from the surgery.

He threw 15 pitches earlier this week at EXST for his first official time spent against live hitters. I'd expect he's going to get at least April at EXST and then move him to Myrtle Beach for 2 inning stints by early May, as a guess, with the hope that he finishes the season going 4+ a few times at South Bend.

Possibly.  Canario has had a lot of time in CF through his career though.  But Canario also will likely be recalled before PCA and possibly play CF at times if they want to give Bellinger the odd day at DH.

He is averaging 96.1 at Iowa in the early going in multi-inning stints.  He might sit closer to 98 when he shortens back down to being a 1 inning guy.
