Votto deserves another team to play for

Careful, the Cardinals might be listening.

The talk here is the Nationals are now going hard after Phillips, so the Reds look to be in fire sale-mode; I'd like to think that even the Reds aren't dumb enough to dump any big pieces in the division.

Jocketty is a Cardinals plant.

being in fire-sale mode, why would they even care about trading 32 year old joey votto within the division?

would you have cared if we traded samardzija to the cardinals if that had gotten us like taveras and martinez or something?

Trying to tweak the team to get an extra win or two by giving up a ceiling like Soler's does not strike me as prudent. Not for a team that projects to win so many games already. The Cubs will make the playoffs and have a good shot when they get there. I just shudder to think of Jorge locked in like he was to end the season in the middle of another lineup.

Votto is already 32 and still owed 199 mil over the next 8 years.

He was also worth over 7 wins last year. If you think Steamer underrates his hitting ability(likely, since he's a career .311 hitter that hit .314 last year while Steamer projects him at .283), then he's probably still going to provide about 50 million in surplus value, and that's not really considering inflation either.

Before this, I would have ruled out the Cardinals trading for Votto because they didn't have enough to acquire him without hurting the major league roster. But now, I'm not so sure.

But I don't see Mozeliak going that route. As great as Votto is, that decline can come quickly, and he is 32.

As for Frazier, I don't think he is great, but two years of him has to be worth more that what the Reds got. Going from GABP to the Cell is almost a later move, so maintaining his numbers should be expected.

Bob Nightengale thinks this move might make the White Sox a contender again.

mmmhmmmm

I mean, they're sitting at 2nd in the AL Central in FG's WAR projections. Of course they're sitting 10th in the AL overall.

Probably would have been partying with Bryant.

Proving once again that doing anything other than exactly what they and Jed have done would have cost us Bryant.
