On one hand, I hope the Dodgers gave up Urias and Seager for a (potentially historically great) RP. On the other, I kind of hope they didn't because even though Cincy sucks right now, I think those two will be awesome and would rather not deal with them being in the division

You guys want to play Urias and Seager for the next 6-7 years?

I hope Cincy got trash for him.

So conflicted. On one hand, I dont want the Reds to get anything of value back. But on the other hand, if all they got back was trash, Im going to wish it was our trash.

On the one hand, yes, you pick up a guy who could be one of the most dominant closers in history.

On the other, you already have a stellar closer, and you're likely giving up very good prospects for a guy who will play in about 4% of the innings your team plays.

I don't understand this move from a value perspective. Dodgers appear to be getting desperate.

I guess I just am not worried about Cinci at all so even though the Dodgers aren't in our division the thought of having to face Chapman and Jansen in the 8 and 9th inning in the playoffs is scary. So I wanted them to get ripped off. But that doesn't seem to be the case so oh well.

yeah if they didn't even have to part with Jose DeLeon, i'm prepared to be a little bit rankled about this trade

The Cubs don't even have a prospect as good as DeLeon nor just about MLB ready.

It's possible they plan to use Chapman in a relief ace/fireman type role.

I would think they'd love to do that while Chapman would hate it in his last season pre free agency

Does he really lose out on FA with his track record as a "proven closer?"

I'd say that's debatable, and even still, the Dodgers DIDN'T give him up, so that wouldn't really matter even if it were true.

I'd sure like to see what Chapman could do as a starter. Would you take a chance and stretch him out and give it a go?

i think we have a poster who might have some thoughts on that somewhere.

He said he doesn't want to start, but if we're talking hypothetically then no I wouldn't. The Cubs are trying to win a World Series and that's too much of a gamble.

I hope the Dodgers stretch him out so we can see if that works and make a decisions about him as a FA next offseason.

I'm sure the Reds had no interest in trading him within the division, so there's no use in getting upset.
