So conflicted. On one hand, I dont want the Reds to get anything of value back. But on the other hand, if all they got back was trash, Im going to wish it was our trash.

yeah if they didn't even have to part with Jose DeLeon, i'm prepared to be a little bit rankled about this trade

I'm sure the Reds had no interest in trading him within the division, so there's no use in getting upset.

that's how i consoled myself.

I know next to nothing about their new GM other than that he appears to be about as much a nepotism hire as you'll find, but in a season where they don't look to be trying to win games, why should they care if Chapman is in their division? He'll be a FA by time they try again.

I don't disagree with you. But it seems like most teams still get hung up on it.

true, though even with the free agency looming, him being on a team (particularly a successful one) probably increases the likelihood to some extent that he is on that team going forward.

has any GM ever actually said that? man, i'd be furious if the cubs turned down a better offer because the potential trade partner was in the division.

i mean, with the unbalanced schedule (plus actually needing to win the division to get into the playoffs w/out a play-in game), it matters. i'm not sure to what extent, but if offers are reasonably close, i'd rather deal a good player outside of the division.

you still have to play those 19 intradivisional games, so i could see that at least being a tiebreaker, wanting to avoid a star player you're losing if at all possible

Didn't stop the Dodgers from dealing Kemp to the Padres last year.

Good news - my Heyward and Chapman headlined dream is still a possibility.

Hope not after the latest news. Ugh.

Wonder if the Dodgers are trying to back out of the trade now.

I mean, one would hope they would just on moral grounds, but this is a business. Being gross and objective about this, it significantly alters his value. He is coming on a one year deal and now facing a quite possible suspension.

I smell bargain baseball talent!

Good God.
