0 for 25 leading off innings and have not had a lead for a single inning this series; how on Earth is this possible? The Mets have caught lightning in a bottle while we have crapped all over ourselves but I will be here tomorrow night in front of my tv until the final damn out.

I guess this mean we did have two leadoff walks? .074 IsoD baby.

I still love the 08 team, and I'll always love this team. The series win over the Cards is probably the best thing I've experienced as a Cubs fan. I just wanted more, and thought it was gonna happen. Still can, I suppose, but we're still allowed to feel bad.

It doesn't feel right that immediately after the best thing ever happens we fall flat on our faces. Maybe I should save this for the fatalism thread but it's like even the highs in our history are immediately followed by lows.

I think we were all hoping that if we were going to go out this round, we'd at least make it close.

If the end result is the same, I'm not sure it really matters. In many ways, I could accept a 4 game sweep where everything went wrong more easily than I could a heartbreaking Game 7 loss.

I'd feel better if this Cubs team had won 4 games in a row this year. Maybe it's not probable. But it's damn sure possible.

Too bad we've never had a 4 game winning streak with all games against the mets

i'm not sure I understand exactly what you're saying but I was being sarcastic. they swept the mets, as you know, 7-0 in the regular season - including a 4 game sweep. i was just kidding around and trying to be optimistic.

HOIBALL DEBUTS NEXT WEEK

Will be exciting when Rose doesn't see 2 basketballs out there. Plus Dunleavy might

not even play this year.

And the (hated by some) Blackhawks are a black cloud of Kane/rape and now a fairly significant injury to Keith.

I know, I was going with it, not taking you seriously. Sorry I should have made that more clear

This is just playoff baseball I guess.

The Cubs could sign all the David Price's in the world and have the best starting staff in baseball and could lose again in the same way next year. There isn't anything that can be said like "If we just had Player X, then things would be different." It is a crap shoot in the playoffs and it just so happens that the Cubs are suddenly playing very poor baseball after an extended period of great baseball.

Whatever happens tomorrow and the rest of this series... As long as this team can consistently get to the postseason, chances are they will eventually break through.

it's ok. you've had a rough (extended) weekend of sports. I have, too, but I expected my teams - except the cubs - to suck. it's a bit easier to handle when expectations are low.

i'm not giving up on this team yet and won't until the final out. but this team has given me a lot of joy and i'm excited as [expletive] about next year and the many years to follow. last year i gave up on the cubs before my birthday as being a competitive club. my birthday is may 21st. it's been a fun year. and i'm different than most. i'd rather the cubs lose in 7 and break my heart than lose in 4. I want them to be competitive until the end.

Let's assume, slightly generously, that the Cubs have a .250 chance of getting a hit in any given AB. Then the odds of them not getting a hit are .750. The odds of them not getting a leadoff hit in 27 straight innings is:

(.750)^27=.00042, or .042%, which is 42 out of 100,000.

Pretty much sums up how this series has been full of fluky [expletive].

Missed this game, but doesn't look like I missed much

This makes your sports rant so much worse

I'm legitimately heartbroken. I love this team so much. Thankfully we have many more years with most of these guys.

Yeah, these guys have given so much joy the last 6 months. Don't want it to be over.

Followed such a great script. Young, fun, personable team, built from within. Fantastic performance in a do-or-die game. Knocking out the vaunted Cardinals... I guess if this was Hollywood, an 0-3 comeback in the NLCS fits perfectly.

Positive me: Guys. I'm going today. Every time I've seen the Cubs they've had at least a 4-game winning streak start the game I went to. I've been to 7 games this year.

Negative me: Man, I hate these guys so much right now. One week after I declared them my favorite team ever.

There are worse ways to see your team fall. Aaron Boone to the Red Sox in 2003, but they got back up and pulled off a great 2004 season and won it with a mix of young and old. They competed in 05-06 and won it again in 07.

I do, for the record, think the Cubs push this back to Flushing. The Mets haven't been here either and I don't see this Cubs team laying down. They haven't done so all year. Just get past today somehow.

Wright was actually out on the play at 2nd.

Gotta use your challenges

I thought he was out too

I didn't think so at first but when they showed a replay from the 3B side I thought he was definitely out. (Twitter is blocked at work so I can't see the tweet. Not sure what it actually shows.)

This series has not been a shining moment in Maddon's managerial career. Still, he's not the reason for this flat performance. Two hot teams came together and one dominated the other for the first 3 games. Maybe there is a magical ending right around the corner.
