I don't hate the guy and would not mind at all if he throws out a first pitch. I would expect Sammy to get a huge ovation.

 

For me, '98 was fun for sure. . . but it didn't take long to realize all the homers were BS and completely inflated. Sammy was cool right up to the weird last day of 2004. Bad situation all around.

Is there a video that shows this? I saw some mention of it at the time, but most of the video I've seen doesn't linger on him because the home run was a laser beam.

This is almost certainly not true, and probably the biggest reason(or close to it) that Sammy isn't part of any ceremonial stuff, especially in the playoffs. Crane Kenney or Ricketts may have an irrational beef with Sammy, but so do thousands of Cubs fans who Kenny/Ricketts aren't interested in giving the opportunity to boo Sammy during a moment that is meant to be fluffy PR and happy for everyone.

There is no way they fail to have a huge ovation prior to a huge NLCS game. It would be enormous. The idiots who feel wronged will be too stunned to muster a loud boo, and those decent folk that appreciate what he did/was will burst with applause. Either way TBS won't bother airing anything.
