bill murray.

speaking of which, we get drunk john cusack and plain 'ol average jim belushi during the nlds and murray is nowhere to be seen? is he filming a movie or something? tell him to stop promoting that george clooney/sofia coppola christmas [expletive] and get his ass to wrigley field!

It feels like Murray hasn't showed up (or at least hasn't been shown or talked about or made his way to the booth) since he threw out the first pitch in 2012, and even before that it seemed like he didn't make himself known at the games nearly as much as he did in the Caray/Stone days.

Murray was at that Cubs/Cards game this year where he called that little kid wearing a Cards jersey the spawn of satan or something. It was hilarious.

That was at a game? I thought it was out in public somewhere and the kid just happened to be wearing a Cardinals hat or shirt or something when he asked for an autograph.

I think it was at the Molina/Matheny tossed game.

hmm... Actually, I think my memory is going, lol. I could have sworn it was this year, but this is all I can find and you are right it was a golf pro am that he did that.

I think Bartman should have nothing to do with anything, as HE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH ANYTHING.

Christ. Bringing him back just gives credence to meatball fans who think he was the or a reason we lost in 2003.

Exactly. Don't legitimize this idiotic line of thinking. Plus, it takes a great moment away from people who, you know, had something to do with the Cubs.

if they bring sammy back i'll probably cry.

I unfortunately think we're more likely to get some drunk like Sutcliffe or Grace before we get Sammy.

My guesses for this series would be

Dawson

Maddux

Sutcliffe

If Necessary:

Fergie

Grace(as long as it's not 3-0)

Williams

Next most likely: Dempster (probably in stupid Harry Caray glasses), Lee, Zambrano

i would think they'd stick to guys who have been around team stuff like the convention/spring training/etc.

i don't think grace has been around for stuff like that (nor has sammy, obviously)

i'd think it'd be guys like sutcliffe, maddux, billy, fergie?

dempster somewhere along the way?? he's not big enough. not when they've already done sandberg and woody.

then again, i think jacque jones was at last year's convention, so who the [expletive] knows as far as that being a good indicator

i wonder when the last time Grace made a Cubs related appearance was, aside from like singing the 7th inning out of the DBacks booth...

Pretending like meatballs exist doesn't magically make the hell they put Bartman through go away. I really don't give a [expletive] what it "legitimizes" because it would ultimately just be a nice gesture after the fact to a guy who basically had his life ruined just for being a Cubs fan who went to a game.

No, it would ultimately be dumb as [expletive]. A nice gesture would be to send him a free t-shirt.

He didn't have his life ruined. Why are you buying into the media narrative saying as much?

I mean his name is out there attached to this huge story for the rest of his life. That's pretty shitty in itself.

If people heard my name and there was a good chance they'd instantly think of me as some kind of stupid sports villain it would suck. Yeah, he's not "living in a box on the street"-ruined, but it still blows. The guy didn't do anything wrong and his name is going to forever be a ridiculous joke until his stupid team that he was trying to watch actually wins a World Series.

And again, I'm not saying bring him out now; I'd just have no problem with them doing it after they got over the hump. It would just be decent gesture that ultimately would be a single moment in a seemingly neverending victory parade over the course of the next season.
