I think Wacha has had some resolvable mechanical issues (got this from fangraphs). I'm hoping they don't get fixed until the offseason, but he may come out strong after a decent rest since 9/30.

However, I think Lynn is toast in game 4.

If he's falling off to the 1b side, he'll be opening his shoulder up too soon, leaving that fastball flat.

Let's hope so. The wind should be howling out to RF tonight.

I'll make Rizzo my pick to hit multiple dongs tonight.

Plus Bryant to go oppo.

I'm leaning towards them starting Lackey in game 4 after they lose tonight since he only threw 86 pitches in game 1.

Considering they have to win both games anyway, it would be foolish of them to do so.

Why? He didn't pitch much in his first start; get the series back to St. Louis and hope Lynn can fare better there. Doesn't seem all that unrealistic.

If they're throwing Lynn in Game 5 then it especially doesn't make sense for Lackey to go in Game 4. They'd need both games, it doesn't make sense to throw Lackey on short rest when the other guy pitches anyway(and against the better opponent SP in Lester).

More likely, Lackey in Game 4 means Garcia on normal rest in Game 5. Then it's a matter of whether the upgrade from Lynn to short-rest Lackey is greater than the downgrade from Lackey to Garcia.

Garcia or Lynn; either way, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Lackey in game 4.

After some quick BRing, the last NL Cy Young winner was Maddux in 93.

what in the [expletive]? he was the best gd pitcher in the league!

Greg Maddux – 1993 – NL Cy Young

Maddux’s 1993 omission is similar to Roger Clemens’ in 1987, as it came because of a slow start in what was otherwise a historic stretch. After arriving in Atlanta as a free agent, Maddux started his Braves career with an unlucky 8-8 mark at the break. It all evened out eventually, with The Professor finishing with an impressive 12-2, 1.79 ERA run that made him win the second of his four consecutive Cy Youngs. He made a total of 8 All-Star games for his Hall of Fame career, which frankly is a bit low for a pitcher of his caliber.

God, Arrieta probably already is in the pantheon of great Cubs pitching seasons

No probably. He's there. Cards are in trouble and they know it.

http://www.bleachernation.com/2015/10/03/jake-arrietas-incredible-2015-season-was-probably-the-best-in-modern-cubs-history/

Just before his no-hitter I thought "hmm, this season may be better than Prior's 2003" but I thought it was close enough to not be conclusive.

Then he continued being Bob Gibson.

By the way, for Game of Thrones fans out there, Anthony Rizzo definitely gave us a Jaime Lannister-ism. When asked about how the Cubs haven't clinched a playoff series in Wrigley in however many years, he said "there's never been a team like us before"

Reading through this thread, I feel like I'm the only one who's freaking out at the thought of Arrieta giving up some early runs and losing this game. I know this year has been very different, and they've come through in very big moments this season, but the pessimist inside me is still haunted from being in the bleachers for Loney's GS.

GAHHHH a 1-2-3 first inning and a 2 run KB homer would help ease some of these nerves.

I watched a youtube video featuring post season walk off home runs and I keep dreaming about the Cubs doing it. Of course that will be difficult to do when we win 8-0 with every starting position player donging.

Sure he could give up some runs just like sure I could win the lotto tomorrow.

The fun of having a lockdown ace is getting to be surpremely confident that he will be amazing. If it doesn't happen that's a bridge we will cross but the odds are on another dominant start.
