Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said that Lance Lynn remains "penciled" in to start Game 4 of the NLDS despite appearing in relief in Game 2.

Lynn threw 24 pitches over one inning of work, so it was essentially just a normal between-starts bullpen session for him. Matheny did say that the Cards "have options," so it doesn't sound like Lynn is a given to take the ball Tuesday in Chicago. "I think right now we have options," said Matheny. "We haven't used Tyler [Lyons], haven't shown him, and Lance is certainly the guy that we have kind of penciled for that [start] so far. And anything he did today didn't hurt his chances of doing that as far as health-wise."

Lackey has 2 postseason starts on 3 days rest, and he was really good in both. But the last one was 10 years ago, if they bring him back on 3 days rest and we will dong the [expletive] out of him.

Let us assume that the Cubs have a 2-1 lead going into game 4. Why would Matheny bother to pitch Lackey on short rest? They still need to win BOTH games 4 and 5. Keep Lackey on his normal rest and start whoever the hell for game 4. I don't think it makes sense to play Lackey on short rest just to have him play at Wrigley.

I wish they felt more comfortable with Schwarber catching, since we have so many raging dongsmen with a 1.200+ OPS against Wacha, and Montero is not one of them. Dream with me, if you will:
