So, the good news is that this game is officially at 5:07pm. The bad news is that Game 4, tomorrow, is officially at 3:37pm per the email I just got from the Cubs.

Only one of the starting pitchers tonight was an all-star.

Even though the first half was Jake's "bad" half, he still bested Wacha in every single statistic except for Win-Loss percentage.

To me, that's good news (but I know I may be the only person on this board to feel that way  )

Thanks Chase Utley!

Has the winner of the Cy Young ever not been an all star? It must be pretty rare.

After some quick BRing, the last NL Cy Young winner was Maddux in 93.

Has happened quite a bit in the AL during the same time frame:

Kluber 2014

Hernandez 2010

Santana 2004

Hentgen 1996

In other words, not as rare as I thought it would be.

18/108 total cy youngs given out = 17% of all awards were given to someone that wasn't an all star that year.

How did you generate that list so fast?

I think this question gets asked like weekly here.

So I was thinking about things this morning and I like to look at this as a three game series where we have: 1) home field advantage; 2) Arrieta in game 1; 3) Lester to close it out in game 3 (if required).

Nothing earth shattering there, but was a bit more fun for me to think of it that way.

Dong them into submission. This thing isn't getting back to St. Louis.

That's what I told those people leaving Busch stadium that the next time they are watching the Cardinals at home is April 2016. A lot of them agreed with me

I googled 'Cy young winners not an all star' or something similar and a couple of articles down had the list.

Lol

What's this Googled thing. Are you some freaking computer wizard.

God, Arrieta probably already is in the pantheon of great Cubs pitching seasons and he can keep stacking up achievements. Shut em down baby

Pound the Cardinals

[expletive].

I guess I shouldn't try to do things the old fashioned way by exploring reputable sources.

I was hoping that there was some sortable search feature I couldn't find on Baseball Reference.

I'm to the point of anticipating such an absolute bloodbath delivered by the Cubs against Wacha that I wish it lined up so that Jake was pitching tomorrow to seal the deal.
