The big question is now how long we wait until Baez is recalled.

Where does he play can they really bench castro the rest of the season?

the plan is fine

but when you are on the cusp of a playoff season, you make moves to try to cement it

especially when you have lots of prospect depth. that is what the [expletive] they're there for.

Hopefully they're spending a [expletive] of money this offseason, I guess.

If they can sign one of the TOR pitchers in the offseason and Baez hits, "the plan" will be hitting on all cylinders. The team remains competitive and we have a free option on Castro.

is hunter like another motte basically?

also lol

Ken Rosenthal @ken_Rosenthal

#Padres largely standing pat because GM A.J. Preller believes the team can reach the postseason, source says.

Preller is a [expletive] lunatic

Hopefully we look back at this day 2 months from now and are relieved because Baez has shown promise at the major league level. Unfortunately it is probably more likely that we will look back and think the Cubs should have got "something" while they still could.

I know Junior Lake isn't great and will probably never start for us, but he's better than Chris Denorfia and Tommy Hunter does nothing for me.

So you guys are mad we didn't let Preller cherry pick our system cause his teams "still in contention"

oooooooook got it

With most other GMs I'd just assume he didn't get what he wanted and is justifying it with a CYA quote, but this guy might actually believe it.

you have literally no clue what they were asking for in what deals. and teams usually cherry pick players in trades. thats how they work.

Lake is not better than Denorfia.

Do get a decent reliever for a spare part and solidify the 5th spot in the rotation for a couple guys we might've lost in the Rule 5 draft anyway. Certainly not sexy moves and a bummer we didn't do anything big but hard to be too disappointed. Got some help without really giving up anything.

WTF??! no.

I'm still high as [expletive] on Baez.

Not a bad deadline and I understand not going all in yet. So much promise but there are still an ample amount of warts.

The guy spent the week trying to sell high. It's a pretty obvious PR-centric statement to justify why a deal was not done.

It was clear they wanted Baez.
