I love this move, but the pessimist in me still wonders whether I should be at all concerned that Bryant, Russell, Schwarber, and Baez may all be due for free agency in the same year.

if we care about all four of those guys at that point, things will have gone very well (except for the fact that none of them signed extensions, which will be weird).

I really hope Soler is back for at least a game before Schwarber leaves. I really want to see

Fowler

Rizzo

Bryant

Schwarber

Soler

Montero

Castro

Coghlan

Russell

Geez Louise that's sexy.

Yeah, I do that too. But then I try to think about how they are going to have six full seasons with this group starting next year and that by the time they are free agents the revenue stream should be picking up with a new TV deal. (I think).

I'm not worried about that because of what tree said.

That said, I doubt Schwarber will use up his year this year

Admittedly, I didn't understand the rationale behind #9 hitter (Russell) but now that I see the idea of seeing better pitches - I get it, especially for the development of young players.

So..will Maddon bat Schwarber #9 for the 6 games?

Seriously doubt it. He'll bat late in the lineup though.

It's not going to shock me if its Rizzo/KB/Schwarber at 2-3-4. He can mash, if they treat him as such, it won't surprise me at all.

Baez being on his fourth organization at that point, I'm sure he'll forgive us and come back on a minor-league deal.

My favorite part of the release was how adamant Theo is about Schwarber going to Iowa.

At the end of the day, this feels like ... when a kid gets a reward for doing well on a test. Schwarber worked hard all year, "aced" AA, gets his reward, and moves on to the next test. I think it sends a great message up and down the system that if you work hard, they'll reward you.

Furthermore, this likely gives Willson Contrereas regular catching duties, which can only be a positive for them, and thus, a positive for the Cubs. I wonder what the corresponding AAA move is, not that it's a big deal.

Yep, I bet he hits 4th, or 5th behind Montero. This is a Bryant-level bat, and Maddon wasn't scared about putting Kris directly into the cleanup spot.

Not if John Kruk is to be believed.

Maddon really wanted him to bat 9th, but knew he would get upset knowing he was below the pitcher.
